Good loupe to recommend?
« on: October 27, 2014, 12:00:42 AM »
I am looking to get a loupe. Are you using any and what is your recommendation? Is loupe system that good and worth the money? Or some much cheaper loupe will do? My objective is to have decent view of watch movement.

Are you repairing watches or just looking.

If u have the money, go for Bergeon or Bausch and Lomb. If not A*F or ASCO ones are good too.

Just for fun looking at the movement, as eyes can't see properly to appreciate. Tks for the info.

If this the case, then you would be well off by buying a cheap loupe. Theres some listed in techno.my

Just a friendly advice. Be wary about looking at your watch under a loupe. No watch is perfect, no matter how expensive. Once you see something, you can't un-see it.

If you really want to see, just get a 3x magnifying glass. That should be good enough. Daiso got.

Yes! I agree...a loupe is an evil thing.  However, it will also magnify a watch that is indeed perfect in execution.  So far, I have 3 watches that are perfect under a 10x loupe; my 2 GS and my GO.  I had the minute hand changed on my Sub C after observing micro scratches at the RSC and in the process of getting the dial changed (imperfect printing on the chapter ring) and scratches removed on a bridge on my Zenith.  I also had the case changed on my Nomos after observing imperfect polishing on one of the lugs and had my Speedy Pro dial vacuumed after observing speckles of dust.  I even had a JLC Reverso returned to the boutique as reversing the case causes micro scratches on the 3 Art Deco lines, which the SC were unable to rectify.  Luckily, all these were done under the warranty period (except the Speedy Pro).  So, if you are as anal as me, a loupe could be an evil thing to have but it will also make you better at evaluating your own watch collection.  After all, we are paying big bucks for the details and finishing.  It should be perfect or near perfection at the asking price.  I know I am extremely anal but I could not help it.  :Startled:
