Advise needed on 1st watch
« on: July 29, 2014, 10:10:51 PM »
Hi i am a small time white collar in KL and currently looking to start out wearing a watch
(i know compared to most of u that must sound...  :Laughing_on_floor: )

Below are my preference:
1) my budget ?since i am only starting) is ard RM800-1500
2) i dont want it digital  (stuck with Analog)
3) something my age (26/Male)
4) I prefer it not with belt (chain? not sure whats the term)
5) I like black/red

Also,
i am very new to watch wearing so i currently only looking at Seiko & Casio (Any other brand?)
i dont think Automatic watches fall into my price range? if ya, any brand to intro?

So far the one that i find fits quite well are below but not really what i want:
Seiko SNAE80P1 Black&Rose Gold (but its in belt, d gold looks kinda old?)
Seiko SSA183K1 Automatic Superior Mens Watch Silver (Somewhere there, but still looking for smthing i like better)
Seiko SSC015P1 Solar Chronograph Mens Diver Watch Silver (d description writes sports watch/divers watch, i intend it only for office wear, is that ok? comments?)
<SSC015p1 is by far d best i seen online, i have a few more i like i seen in shops but didnt get d model numbers>

Note:
Once again i am very new to this, sorry if i offended anyone by my post. if i wrote anything wrong feel free to tell me and i will delete the post asap and disappear.

Seiko brand fits your requirement, as I am also a Seiko fan  ;)

SRP583 or SRP581 just introduced in the Basel 2014 recently, you get instant recognition.

Hi OP, welcome to the world of watches.

If you want an auto, take a look at this thread:

http://www.malaysiawatchforum.com/index.php/topic,12631.0.html

You could also consider the Orient Mako and Seiko SKX007.  The 007 is a larger watch but it is a very high quality and functional diving instrument.

You should also look at the Citizen NB0000-01E. It's a pretty classy watch and the movement is excellent in my experience.

Hay guys, thanks a lot for the replies

1) i noticed most of you offered choices of "belt" watches (not sure what to call it) which my friend comment that when the wearer perspires results in smells and the belt smelling after a period of time. and I do intend to wear the watch i buy on a nearly daily basis, should i be concern and stick to "chain" only watches?

2) Anyone used or have a review on Seiko SNAF31P1? The shop owner introed it to me for RM1500+-. kinda high for me but wanna hear some comments first if any?

Yoda: Nice intro, will keep an eye on it, asked a shop in Tropicana mall, they don have it, maybe still new?
Jason: I just added 007 to my shortlist ^_^
Biokclub: Tissot looks nice in black, thx for d info
ViiiLaiX: interesting. Any place to intro where i can view more seiko choices? (the real goods with a fair price instead of online pics)

Thank you all for your time

AnteM, most of the bracelets on the more affordable watches aren't great. You might get a nicer watch overall if you buy a good watch on leather and then upgrade the strap to good leather.

Also check this one out:

A friend whose opinion I rate highly has one and likes it.

If you're a diver fan, go for the evergreen Seiko SKX007 or SKX009 with Jubilee or Oyster bracelet. It's affordable, cheerful and has wrist presence. If you're into dress watch, Tissot Visodate or Orient Bambino comes to mind. Also, bear in mind that you can always get a nice watch, and then pair it with various Nato/Zulu straps to cater to different occasions- that way, you would have a very versatile "collection"

Sorry Admin!

OP, take a look at the Seiko Sportura Chronograph SSC271.  It's quartz but it's a decent quartz chronograph, solar, bracelet, alarm, sapphire, and it's a classic sporty style which you can wear just about anywhere.

Hay guys,

Thanks a lot for the intros and all. i think i quite like this
"Orient FET0M001W0 ET0M001W Speedster Sport Watch"
and wow, i just found it on Ebay SG for USD 2++ (New with tags)
but i figure i might wanna touch the real deal first. but if all else works, i think i'm get that.

any place i should go to to have a look at Orient watches? (Mid valley? or any malls?) i googled and the results were somewhat confusing, landing me with lazada and ask.com which provided useless clues.

Any Sifus can chip in?
I've been out of Malaysia for so long so unable to answer OP's question on who/which outlet carries decent collections of Orient models.

Thank You, will have a look over the weekend.
I was quite shocked to learn that whole of KLCC does not carry the brand, not even City Chain.
or is Orient a less sought after brand for a reason? just curious.... cause i think i saw all other brands i knew in KLCC.

Orient IMO an underestimated brand by the general public.
What makes them unique is:- they only use their own in-house movement.
Even during the quartz onslaught in the 70s they withstood the challenge and maintained their automatic movements.

Here is another model for your consideration ...

Orient FET0M001B0 - Speedster with rotating Sliderule.
Note: Case at 46mm kinda too big for my puny hands but if you like big watches then this is it.

TECHNICAL DETAILS:
Men / Women: Men
Water Resistance:  50m
Case Material:  Stainless Steel
Case Diameter:  46mm without crown
Case Thickness: 12.3mm
Dial Color: Black
Bezel Function: Stationary
Calendar: Date
Band Material: Stainless Steel
Lug Width: 23 mm
Warranty Type: 1 Year International Warranty
Same Model As: FET0M001B, ET0M001B
