Dilema! Panerai vs Rolex
« on: July 15, 2014, 04:41:46 PM »
Help! I am now in a dilemma!  Walked into the AD to pull the trigger on the sub c nd, and decided (wrong decision!) to take a look at the Panerais.

Bottom line......I had to walk out as I had second thoughts about the sub c.

Any other forum members have this problem? I only have enough for one...

which would you choose? Panerai or Rolex? And Why?

Hi Explorer

Your name is already Explorer a well known icon of Rolex. A close association to Rolex.

Just pull the trigger and regret later or perhaps you will never regret at all.

I have never had a Panerai. My reason I have a small wrist.

Rolex- immediately recognizable watch by anyone
Panerai- they may complement and ask what is it and caught by the simplicity of the design and you get to buy lots of strap as fun activity to keep your watch look fresh and exciting all the time. Check out the panerai clubs in Malaysia and Singapore and you will see what I mean. Don't think Rolex club is this exciting and lively

Think really hard if are considering a Panerai. I've looked at them many times but even my grey dealer who sells lots of them advise me to forget them.

But if you like the idea of having a great collection of straps and changing them often to match your outfit, and being a member of that group, then what can anyone say?

With the price you pay for a brand new sub C, why not survey the pre-own market, you might be able to get both the sub AND panerai, with a slight top up of course depending on which model/generation.

After living with both said watches you will get a feel of which one you like better, and decide where your collection goes after that.

Best part is if you don't like either one just unload it off for little to no loss.

I got a Sub 14060M, and is still thinking about when to get my first Pam....

With your budget of new Sub C, top up a few grands, you can get a pre-owned Sub 14060M and a pre-owned PAM 000.

Both watches are highly collectable and praised among WIS.

Best of both world? choices, choices.....

if can get both that's the best !. Less headache and life goes on immediately.

otherwise this will be banging in your head until you buy it. And after you buy it if you are not contented it will bang some more and until you get the other.

I got mine first pam. Shortlive joy, after that I had 2 more came up on my mind as I was looking around to make me feel like I got to have this 3 to complete the collection. So more headache instead of curing the first one.

If you are going to own only one watch, go for Sub. More flexible - looks good in every occasion, and easily recognised. Pam should be the second or third watch for the added variety, and to signal to fellow watch enthusiast that you are ready for membership. Outside of the Rolexes and Omegas, not many layman knows PAM, AP, PP, VC, JLC.

I got the PAM first because that's the watch that lead me to the watch 'bug'. Love the size, simplicity, the sandwich dial, the case and the unlimited options for straps. Can't stop looking at the watch but couldn't tell the time when asked what time is it. It just grew on me everytime I look at it

After a year or so, I had a chance to buy another watch based on my wifey's approval. And from there, I had a Rolex Sub C in my radar as I was looking for a versatile yet different to the PAM I had earlier. Choosing between a Sub C and a Sub C Date is another story tho.

I have to admit, the Sub C did not grew so much on me when I wore it on alternate weekends until after a few months, I kinda admire the classic look and the thinnest of the case. Guess that's what makes a Sub, a Sub. Definitely a dressier sports watch when compare to the PAM.

As of now, I still love my PAM but the Sub C has more wrist time as I find it more versatile and suits my working environment better.

Hope I don't confuse you further with my personal story for both watch.

At the end of the day, I'm sure you'll get both. But which to get first, depends on your preference what you wanna fill up in your collection first.

Good luck in your search.

The Glidelock bracelet that comes with the Sub C is one of the most comfortable and well-made bracelet. It's a pity you are substituting it with Natos! PM me if you wish to sell the bracelet.. ;D

Not substituting....just adding a different look to the watch (I wore my Explorer II on its bracelet for 20years so now am into straps).  Will probably be alternating between the bracelet and nato.
