Anyone know to clarify or check the original panerai watch? Wish to buy a pre-own panerai watch from shop.

if it's with box and papers basically u can match the serial number on watch and papers.
also, there's a movement sticker which also can be matched.

if the 2nd hand shop is reputable, the watch shd be OK.

also, if there's no box and papers, i'd stay away.

If you need 100% assurance, bring to Richement.

I wouldn't use this as a criteria as I've seen costly high-end replica Panerai that came with box, papers with serial no, extra rubber strap, tools, etc.
Not sure about the movement sticker though.

The buyer was a friend of mine. The seller WAS from a pre-owned shop (guess there's a reason u ask this?). We didn't meet at the shop (which I thought was weird) but at a Indian restaurant in Central Market. The watch came with a 5 figure price tag. At that point of time, it never occurred to me that the watch was a fake. Buthen again, my knowledge of Panerai is limited and I've only seen those cheap Petaling Street fakes so I really couldn't tell the difference. Even when my friend paid 1xxx cash, I still didn't realize it. I thought he was paying a deposit for the watch.  :P

The seller told me that they are doing this on the side to survive. I guess there are those that have connections and ways to get these type of replicas and will be tempted to do so. :(

So best to deal with reputable pre-own shops. I'm sure there are those here who know a few and can give you recommendations.

Good luck & cheers!

hey guys!

I'm really a newbie to panerai  :-\...and I've been offered a watch online but can't tell if it's fake/ori...and I know we cant telll for sure just by looking at pix...but I'm sure you guys can really spot obvious fakes for all the PAM Taikos...here are some of the pix given:

unfortunately no clearer pix were given...so need your advice.  :Praying:

what i noticed to be dodgy is the warranty papers...doesnt have the 'Panerai Panerai' monogram in the background...and the Warranty Card font for "Officine Panerai" looks weird...
Thanks & Cheers!

i gt a fren selling tripple A stock for PAM. basically the package comes exactly with wat the original offer. box, warranty card, sticker and watch. serial no basically is matchable. the only way to differentiate is put the original n replica side to side then u will know if u r not pam lovers like dsiew. you will notice a very very minor 'cacat' compare to a genuine one.

so my advise is better to bring back to richemont or some pams professional to certify it.

this pam111 is fake.
fonts are off on case back. of cos we need to try the crown guard to be more certain.
watch is a pretty good fake.

as for box set, a lot of errors.
wrong screwdriver, font on box, cosc, warranty card, libretto all wrong.

also a libretto is for pre-G series, so this is wrong also.

if u have to buy online, don't just buy base on price, buy the seller.
seller's reputation is 100% more important that saving 10%.

fwah.... ::) u guys r seriously Good la.
I also have doubts buying this online...price was too good to be true also...and I did compare the sample pix in Panerai's official website and the one given, I really couldn't tell the difference much in the watch, but the papers were quite obvious...

well, u said it, buy the seller first. thanks sifu's!

Hopefully others can benefit from this too.

Cheers

So much more to learn about pam.
Thanks to you & the other sifus for your insights.

He the Man. Interesting to note the 'wear' on one of the lugs to the point you can see the lug pins.

Make friends with preowned watch dealers and refer to them / let them take a look before committing to anything. Do some research via Googling...

Government and buyers have  to do something about the supply of fakes in Malaysia (Close those in Petaling Street or Bukit Bintang??) (Hope no hate mails from fake suppliers)

If it is too good to be true, then sometimes it is too good to be true. Always buy from AD first. Then you can consider reputable pre-owned grey dealers.

The watch came with a 5 figure price tag.

if it don't carried a 5 figure price tag its very likely is fake nowadays :)

Hard to say with just 1 blurry photograph. But the pin holding the hands looks suspect, but it could be the angle of the photograph. Would need more and clearer photographs.

Impossible to see based on 1 photo. Just from the top.

Show us a few more, back and side, and with crown lever open.
