I got few questions regarding Maurice Lacroix watch ^^
« on: June 02, 2014, 02:04:30 PM »
Hi everyone ^^

I really need help here with a few questions and Im still very new with the world of watches.

Ive just bought a Maurice Lacroix masterpiece collection, calendrier retrograde (MP7068-SS001-390). From a watch dealer that sells second hand watches and genuine branded watches for a cheaper price. This particular store has been selling branded watch for many many years without any complains. The retail price for this ML model watch is around 17k and the dealer sell it for 10k but i manage to get it for 7k after a few bargain.

The dealer told me it was a display collection from an authorise dealer  and they sell it to them, and thats the reason they could sell it cheaper and its still new and unworn (but not brand new). The watch comes with a box, international warranty card(with 2 years international warranty) and a manual book.

So here are my few questions,

1. Is this watch really genuine and authentic? Or is it a second hand watches but the dealer told me it was a display collection instead?

2. The original watch should come with a black dial leather, but mine was a brown leather instead. Does the previous owner change the leather? (The dealer told me it was this colour in the 1st place)

3. Can i get the watch to maurice lacroix service center at menara keck seng just to get them check whether it is genuine ML watch.( is it ok or will they allowed me to do so?)

I would love to here from you guys regarding my questions. Cheers! ^^

How well do you know the watch dealer? Did they give you a receipt with all details on it?

It would be advisable to bring the watch to the official Service Centre and ask them to check up the watch. If you're worried they might not entertain you because you did not buy from an official dealer, you can always tell them the watch is running slow/fast and ask them to look it over and find out if it needs service.

Well you should have checked first before swiping your credit card right ? A little too late don't you think ..... but it seems that now you are very worried and in much doubt ....... the only think you could do is back to ML to verify and let us know of the result.

Which pre-owned store did you buy from ?

The watch dealer has been selling second hand and branded watches for many years. I bought my Maurice Lacroix at one of their store in shopping mall. The watch comes with the international warranty card(the dealer fill the information and date of purchased on that particular date i bought it.) attached with the card is a receipt from the store and it was stated behind the receipt that they only sell genuine watches, and if whoever can prove that the watches are fake and not genuine they will return full payment to their customer. They actually do encourage customer to bring their watches to service center of the particular brand if there is any doubt. But again its Sarawak region and we don't have any service center here( please correct me if we do)

I think I'm going to KL this coming august and to ML service center. I think i will follow your suggestion of telling them their is something wrong with the watch that is running slow/fast. Do i need to bring the warranty card and the receipt to the service center? Or will just bringing the watches alone is good?. And how long will it take them to do the "repairing"?

I would love to attach pic on my post here, but how should i do it? Hehe, i really not sure how(sorry bout that tho :(  )

www.citytime.my/

Above is their website link, you all can have a look and perhaps tell me what do you all think. If you click on the maurice lacroix section you can actually see the "sold" sign on the model that i bought with some descriptions. I purchased it on their store and not through online. I hope its genuine tho :(  . I meAn why would someone be so bad to sell a fake watch for 10k, thats like a lot of money and you can purchased so many good watches with that price range. I think its probably a second hand watch that the previous owner dint really worn. But again i will really get a service center check and will keep updating.

Really appreciate you all for your opinion, it really makes my day :) thank you sooooo much!

Hi Wendy,

The link you provided is of the MWF merchant's sales corner. Other MWF members please correct me if I m wrong.  If this merchant sells  the watches in MWF, the watches suppose to be genuine.

Thank You

Very likely its a real deal. There's very few copies of ML replica in the market (Petaling Street comes to mind). Even if there are replicas, its usually poorly made. Unlike Rolex replicas which was universally made and well in demand, u cant find good quality ML fakes. However,  its good to check with the service centre esp when u are concerned with the straps. This can be swapped and may reduce the overall quality /feel of the real ones. I did checked my recent purchase 16613LB as the gold bracelet can be xhanged with cheapo type. Not to say we don't trust the seller but it does give u a peace of mind once u got the confirmation. Cheers!

It is highly unlikely that pirates would want to replicate a retrograde Maurice Lacroix watch.  Why go through all the trouble in replicating a ML retrograde movement when it is so much easier to replicate and sell Rolex and Panerais?

Thank you guys for the info!. So i estimate the price range from RM800-RM1100 for the strap. I think its better for me to order and get it at Maurice Lacroix center rather than Authorised dealer ^^,  since i still want to get the Maurice lacroix center to have my watch check and verify tho i know its genuine but i will only felt satisfied after their "check up"!...Hehe

Guys i got a questions here! ^^

Can we claim a warranty services if we lost the paper works and waranty card?(for a new watch). Does bringing the watch alone to a maurice lacroix center will do? (I mean will they able to track the serial number and know that its a new watch?) and will they actualy entertain us without the waranty card on the 1st place. Ive nvr send any of my watches directly to a service center so im not really sure about it.

Referring to your 1st post above, I thought you had an international warranty card? Without any paperwork, obviously the service centre may not be easily convinced that it's a newly bought watch so they can't be faulted if they deny you any warranty service (and decide to charge you for the services carried out), unless you have a model which was released in the recent months.  But what exactly is wrong with your watch anyway??

If your warranty card that has a watch serial nos that tally to the watch case back serial nos ,I don't think there is anything  to worry about. Unless there are some NOS that are not stamped by an ad or fill up the card, still it doesn't mean you  bought something unauthentic . The reason is there are some shops that have ceased to be Ad of ML but are left with some stocks  which they can sell but not authorized to stamp the warranty cards. ML always have very fine finishes which im sure many could distinguise  between

Frankly, it is quite sad to see many posts of people questioning the authenticity of their purchases AFTER the transaction.

Hi everyone, Is it normal for a manual winding watch like ML to tick faster by seconds everyday? I mean if i compare it with my iphone timming, my watch is actualy faster each day by seconds(im not sure how many). Should i get it fix or check?

It is normal for a MECHANICAL watch to run faster/slower by acceptable range of 20 second.

If your watch is ticking way faster for example like a few minutes and that bothers you, then you could send back to regulate.

Just to give you a gauge: ROLEX watches are chronometer certified which every movement is verified to run within the range of -4 to +6 second before they are proceed to putting the movement into the case.

So your saying 20 second per day faster or just maximum of 20 second faster throughout the years. Cause mine after 3-5 days will increased till 1 min+ , until i rewind back to the standard timming.so what do u think?
