What makes any watch special? Each individual will have their own definition of special. Could be because of the history / heritage of a particular brand or a celebration of the birth of a child, a gift from a loved one, to signify a marriage union (or freedom of a divorce) or just a reminder of a place and time. But most are just taken in by the appeal of a certain watch. Sort of like how men are attracted to women.  ;D

For me I can't tell you why it's special, perhaps you'll have to see, hold and put it on your wrist to find out if it's special for you.

PAM is no more special than other similar watches in the same price range.  I for one still don't have a PAM or Rolex but many people in this forum own one or the other or both.  I can think of many alternatives to PAM/Rolex that are as interesting but this is highly personal (taste).  I was looking at a PAM vs Glashutte and Glashutte won.  I was looking at Rolex, IWC vs AP and AP won.  But that's just me.

pam is very successful brand!
strong DNA in its design
every1 can recognize pam from far
mystery history - related to rolex
most people like it, a watch collector and a non collector
Hollywood tough man choice
supply never meet demand strategy, you can never find the historical line pam display at shops, high resale value
pre owned shop favorite
vintage pam sky rocketing in auction
thousand of followers...
strong fan/owner clubs... the paneristi
some ppl just enjoy changing strap everyday
most fake after rolex
most successful brand in the past 20 yrs

so is pam special? YES it is, in every single sense!

I may be a minority here but I don't care most of the above except strong DNA in its design and history of the brand.  The rest is probably the reason why I am staying away from PAM and Rolex.  I see a bunch of PAM and Rolex wearers in my corporate office.

get one and you'll know

a PAM owner who still wears the supplied strap may not be a Paneristi

but an owner who have more straps than watches is definitely a Paneristi!

ya cheapest Pam starts at around sgd 6K. Pam prices is going up esp there are moving toward inhouse movement.
today the those PAM 000 on heavily mod ETA 6497 still cost alot.

even those Pam for Ferrari watches cost a bomb. there resale value is weak. an pre own still cost over sgd$5k

Firstly is history because Panerai is the official supplier for all the precision and timing equipment for Italian Navy's (Marina Militare) underwater special forces during WWII and its only until early 90's of last century Panerai is available for civilian. And the Italian underwater special forces is known to be the earliest of such military unit in the world which is the fore fathers of spec forces like US Navy SEAL.

And due to its background as military equipment therefore Panerai watches is designed with form and function as priority with clarity and ease of use come first ( that's why the most classic PAM dial come with 3,6,9, 12 so big). Therefore no extra decoration is added to its watch design unnecessarily which is very different from the regular watches of its contemporary. However it is also because of this kind of functional minimalism that PAM classic design meets the contemporary design taste of our current time as a result it become "trendy".

Its "simple" design as u have mentioned bear the great spirit of classical modernism of early 20th century where design is derived from the form and the function of an object instead of unnecessary non functional decorative ornaments added to it.

brother dont jump to conclusion so fast, a bit of history again ...... Italy in WWII time is the pariah of Europe a very poor country and all European look down at them so what Panerai do is the casing they made but movement is Rolex one la and even to an extend some model is identical with Rolex watches at that time.

If u really interested do some reading and google a lot u will find it is really a very interesting story behind this brand....

For me what I wear on my hand I must be able to piece up its story otherwise no fun....XD

Besides Rolex is also have its beauty like the Submariner is really nice classic, DS Sub is really good design especially with Nato Strap.... :Laughing_on_floor: :Laughing_on_floor:

The new GMT also is a gorgeous babe especially the gold one I really like it.......green sub, pepsi cola all this is nice Rolex bro
