Black Bay or Pelagos

Bro's and Sifu's,
After 2 weeks of gruesome thinking, I've decided to go for a Tudor as my 1st luxury watch.
The boiling that keeps playing in my mind is, which one? 

The Black Bay (leather or steel) or The Pelagos.
Help me with your enlightenment.

Which one will give more satisfactions and timeless. I planned to pass it down to my son and start the tradition.

Another vote for Pelagos. 

I like the more hardcore utilitarian tool watch feel of it. Looks more serious IMO.

I was checking them out too at AD recently ...... no discount for Black Bay while Pelagos now has some discount from their RRP

Pelagos. Beautiful lume even from the bezel. One of the ADs at KLCC has easy payment scheme too.

Pelagos, but do you see it as a 'pass down' watch? I think the Black Bay has a more evergreen design

Black bay for me, simply because if I want the pelagos, I would save up a little more and get the Submariner instead.

edit: I know the black bay is more Submariner like, but the black bay just gives a more unique feeling than the Pelagos.

The better question to ask the TS would be that whether a date function is necessary? Also do you like the burgundy bezel? I had the black bay and loved it initially. Then I realised I needed the date function. Hence I sold it off and never looked back.

I've been down this road before..asking forummers to help me choose.. in my case between 2 GS that I liked equally.
At the end I chose one but still wished for the other.
Taste is so individual that you will always get votes for both and in the end you will still be confused. You just have to trust your own instinct and taste as you are the one looking at the watch ultimately.

BTW I have a Pelagos and my reason for choosing it is that I like sporty tool watches and the Pelagos fills that role admirably.

 




I would only do without a date IF it is a dress watch but not a tool watch as tool watches should be practical.
If I wanted a fine dress watch then it would be thin and a simple 3 hander or even 2 hander like a Nomos Ludwig or a VC Patrimony or a JLC MUT or a GS 130th Ann, not a sports watch.

I don't see the Pelagos as a hand me down to generations watch honestly.
One day I know I will flip my Pelagos once I tire of its look but for now I love its beautiful titanium casework, fantastic blue chromalite lume of the dial and bezel which no current watch in its price range can match in that area.

U really have to see and inspect the Pelagos finishing up close, same like a GS except this is more tool like.
My 3 previous Omegas that I disposed of, the SMP, Speedmaster and Planet Ocean casing and finishing looks and feels less solid in comparison.
Movt wise the PO's 3313 would be better but hard to benchmark a chrono vs time only…my previous SMP's 2500C is also an ETA except with a coaxial.
Tudor on the other hand uses top grade Elabore ETAs in their watches..

Anyway Tudors are not abt their movements. Hence I said its not a watch to be handed down for generations, neither is the Black Bay.

Based on the approx. price point of the Black Bay/Pelagos of RM 10-12K I would recommend a mint pre-owned Rolex, JLC, IWC, GS. There are other excellent manufactures as well at higher price points.
 
For now I find it unique in its case construction, snowflake hands and the lume of the bezel and dial. There will come a day when another watch will take its place.

Actually, I was one of the first people in Australia outside of dealers lucky enough to handle both the Pelagos and Black Bay together.  Sorry, but I don't consider the Pelagos to be similar to GS in quality.  The case machining is very accurate, but that's about where it ends IMO.  The dial and handsel, in particular, look distinctly mid-range.  To me, the Black Bay looked and felt more expensive, but neither can compare with the PO, IMO.  We'll have to agree to disagree!

Perhaps I was not too precise.
What I meant was similar to a GS where the watch looks different and better in the metal rather than a photo.

The Pelagos of course is a very differently finished watch to reflect its toolish purpose from the GS which is a highly polished and finely brushed desk watch.

Of course 2 opinions can never be exactly the same....no worries...
