Hi guys & gals,

I just got interested in collecting watches & are currently looking to purchase an Omega.
Which model is considered a basic / beginner watch for me? & what is the expected price range?
Also is there other models or brands that you guys could recommend?

i will suggest Omega Seamaster 300m with no doubt, look classic and reliable.

Used the Omega Speedmaster Professional would be anywhere from RM7.5K till around 10K depending on condition of the watch...Can't go wrong with this watch. Looks good on the SS bracelet, or leather or Nato straps

But not sure about the preowned price

More distinctive than the usual black dial.

the seamaster series in ceramic is a good buy, competitive pricing plus see through upscale movement is unmistakeably.

i think pre owned rolex explorer II, panerai basic model and omega r the good choice for a beginner. it will never go wrong due to the resell value and the taste. u will keep buying or changing watch, so must concern the resell value when buying a watch, or u will lose a big money in the future.

i personally like something fancy, vintage Dynamic is just nice. Lovely elliptical shape with a pop color second hand. Give it a strong 70's pop taste, nice!
Automatic ETA base calibre with date, reliable, simple and practicle in daily use.
Since it was a great success that more than 1,000,000 examples were sold so its easy to find and quite a reasonable price to start out collecting vintage.  ;D

it really boils down to your budget.  for example, if you are looking at sub 10k, then you are looking at a very limited range. pre-owned moonwatch gives you a very basic watch with lots of history and easily movable in the secondary market. somehow the sweet spot for preowned watch is around 10-20k. it will open you up for a wide range. Rolex Explorer II, Submariner, Panerai Base models, JLC reverso & etc

Omega is good for entry level watches, like everyone recommends the Speedmaster is a great buy.

My first proper watch is an Omega SMPc. One of the best purchases I made in my life so far. Never regret even for a sec.

But like what others have said, it's very subjective depending on your budget. You could get your hands on an older SMP for merely 5k nowadays. Or the reduced Speedmaster (automatic) for the same budget. Or else, stretch your budget slightly higher (range of 7-8k) and you could get a Speedmaster 3570 with hesalite and solid back or the newer SMP.
