Understated and classic, the GS SBGR083
« on: March 08, 2014, 03:22:26 PM »
I bought this beauty which is the GS, SBGR083 not too long ago. And to me, right now it is my absolute favourite watch. I can wear it anywhere and anyhow I want without it attracting too much unwanted attention. It is so under the radar that it takes another person who knows and appreciates watches to know what it is...

To the uninitiated, it is just another Seiko. But this is such a thing of beauty. I really can't tell you how I enjoy looking at the Zaratsu polished case and how it wears so well and discreetly. I was having supper with a friend who appreciates watches the night before and he asked me, hey...is that a GS that you are wearing? I asked him...why do you ask? And his reply was...because it looks different...it looks more...elegant, more refined.

This is what it looks like from behind

And a size comparison with two other of my watches...

I love it to bits and the size and weight of the watch is just perfect. I know that I will want another GS, not now, maybe later...but I will get a high beat and white face. I am just very satisfied with what I have at moment...Please do excuse my crappy handphone photos as they are what I have at the moment and some of the photos are possible repeats that I have posted before. I will try to make some time to take better pictures but they will have to suffice for now.

Have a great weekend all...

Drool.

Congratulations DC - that is one of Seiko's finest efforts IMO.

Interesting you say that to the uninitiated it is "just another Seiko".  My experience has been the opposite.  My friends have never commented on my Rolex or Omega, but one day I was drinking with a mate (who has almost zero interest in watches), my Hi-Beat blinged in the sun, and he said "mate, that is stunning".

Enjoy that beauty.

Thank you Jason...It is almost the opposite for me over here...I only garner attention to my wrist when I wear my Rolex or IWC or Omega. The GS really flies under the radar. I was having a conversation with a fellow watch enthusiast a long long time ago, he said that any self respecting watch collector/enthusiast will get himself a GS. While I can't be considered a collector, I am a very enthusiastic watch lover...getting to put on this very special watch is really a great feeling. Now I can truly understand what the watch means to those who own them out there... :)

Enjoyed your mini review on the 083, DC. Here is its sibling 081 welcoming you to GS ownership.

GS makes it tough for us enthusiasts to choose sometimes.. or its done on purpose to make us buy more variations.

heat-blued hands or gold accents, thin baton or broad angled polished markers, different styles of hands, etc…. so many variations...

like the 081 and 083…. its tough to choose between the 2…

Some regrets on not getting either one on my Tokyo trip end of last year… esp with prices in some stores being very tempting...
Personal taste and preferences evolve over years, hopefully not 1 full circle otherwise it means we haven't learnt a single thing.

That is a beaut euclidorus. Enjoy your watch, I am sure that you are

JOS...it really is hard to choose which one we like most. Which is why I am considering getting a white dial next, high beat of course :)...These GS guys are really giving us a hard time on purpose...So many nice variations to choose from and at a price that is hard to beat for this level of quality...needless to say one is never enough...
