Was told that the RRP for this regular issue is Y 399,000
In which case, its not cheaper than the Ltd Ed SBDB008 which has a DLC coated titanium shroud with gold highlights and limited to 300 pcs.

If the price is indeed Y 399,000 then Seiko is not milking the model but meeting the high demand for this model (all the 300 Ltd editions were sold out early).
At the same time they can't replicate the Ltd Ed design exactly in order not to jeopardize future Ltd Ed.
Regardless I'm sure glad I managed to get the Ltd Ed…this model will however appeal to those who like the Darth Vader tunas…
Its just very personal taste.. no right no wrong..

Personal taste and preferences evolve over years, hopefully not 1 full circle otherwise it means we haven't learnt a single thing.

I see some similarity with SBDX003 and SBDX001, whereby the former is limited to 500 pcs and with some gold trimmings on the dial. Saw some SDBX003 posted for sale recently at between USD3.9k-4.3k and a new SBDX001 goes for USD2k. Same goes for the SBDX005 and SBDX011 comparison.

Guess if the SBDB008 is kept pristine for a good 10 years it'll command a premium to the SBDB009. Having said that, I think SBDB009 is great for those (tool watch purists) who abhors the golden bits as being too flashy, and it is a great piece of design updated with the SD movement. If this is your first tuna, I would say go for the SBDB009 and no need to buy preown. Think of the SBDB009 as a modern successor to the SBDX011

Even thought this piece mentioned by Jos to be ¥399000, it will be available to other stores in Japan and might be given a good discount which I am looking forward to :D

Shrouds are so addictive. But the mind boggling permutations and variations do make it frustrating to hang on to a meaningful collection for any measure of time.
