Panerai ==> for he who is fashionable and has leather fetish. If he is just fashionable, DKNY and Swatch plastic watch will be the preferred choice.
Rolex ==> for he who is status conscious but also wants his watch to run accurately with minimal fuss for a looooooong looooong time but finds a CASIO or SEIKO too plebeian. 
Omega ==> for the Neil Armstrong and 007 wannabes and since 2013......Mr. Magneto from X-men.

Grand Seiko- for he who wants his finely finished watch to run accurately with minimal fuss for a looooooong looooong time but wants to avoid unnecessary attention hence finds a ROLEX too flashy   

There are MWF members who own both these manufactures… so these are pretty confused people…. or fence sitters...

With respect, some women I know do choose their bags and accessories with very much a same criteria as men chooses their watches, as there are vintage collectors and a few selected choice of bags that has a history in its make and designs. Needless to say, it does reflect their personality.

To me I will say a particular model from that brand tell different personality.

Each model from each individual brand carry a different characteristics.

So choose the right model rather than brand for your own preference. All brand in market are good just depend which one suit your need.

Patek Phillipe ==> For those who use their children as excuse to wear a house on his wrist
Rolex ===> For those who wants everyone to know that they made it in life
Omega===> For those who wants almost everyone to know that they made it in life
(rolex and omega statement above is borrowed from somewhere I read, just couldn't find the link)
AP ===> For those who value steel as much as gold (or oak for the matter), and don't like anything too polished.
IWC ===> I can't beat Enkidu's statement there...
JLC===> For those who think they deserve a real watch and chuckle at everything else... (bloody snobs)...
B&R===> Can be renamed to Bold & Radical
Panerai === > For those who can be more excited about straps than the watch itself.
Piaget === > Just one word: Anorexia
Richard Mille ===>When telling time is not as important as looking at all the cool shit in the watch.

I'll not spare the German Brands

ALS ===> They put together a watch, it works, and then take it apart, make it pretty, reassemble it back again, and they charge twice the workmanship, brilliant!

For those who can afford to pay more to get less steel and gold, also he understand in house, accuracy, reliability not really important in watch after all.....

Funny how I read time from my iPhone more than I rely on my watches to tell the time of day. It's more for showing off really and a confident piece. Status symbol. They were bought after carefully examining their history if any, what's inside, who wears them, whether they look good on my wrist. It started as a passionate hobby through lots of reading, discussion, tender loving care. Now they are my accessories for the wrist. But now I wear them and hopefully on off I get the feel good factor. Life's a changin'. So has my priorities. To answer the question, yes and no. Depending on preferences.

Hmm... I still heavily rely on my watch to tell the time as it is definitely more convenient than bringing the phone out of the pocket to read the time...Unless of course you wear your phone on a lanyard or something.

Haha...I certainly hope not as it is a lighthearted look at our hobby that we sometimes take too seriously.  Let me "ruffle more feathers"...
1) Hublot: For those with big egos who need a Big Bang on their wrist to show people that the world start and possibly end with them.
2) RJ: Either a huge fan of retro video games (eg: Space invaders, pacman) or for those who have watched Titanic several hundred times.
3) Grand Seiko: For those who have ran out of watches to buy and have a keen eye for that special polish that only they could appreciate.
4) Longines: For those who likes their Swiss watches endorsed by every other Asian celebrity.
5) E.Junghans:  For those who prefer a German name on the dial instead of plain old SEIKO.
6) Zenith: For the firm believer of the 'if it ain't broken, why fix it?' mantra. Here's looking at you El Primero.
7) Montblanc: For those who need a watch to match their pen, belt, glasses and wallet.
