Omega Speedmaster '57
« on: December 13, 2013, 07:10:15 PM »

There are several dials in the range that I find attractive. But the one above tops the list and a close second is the blue hands on white dial. The see-through caseback is a big   for me.

Would like to hear some comments about the 9300 co-axial movement in this watch. Most forum comments and some reviews seem to think the co-axial movement is too new to know how reliable it will be in the long term.

What do owners here have to say. Is it a  or

Small world.
I actually shortlisted this piece in Japan together with another Speedmaster in Ti with a very deep blue dial & bracelet together with several Nomos models.

This was going for RM 21K and the other RM 24K nett.
Actually spent an hour at the shop weighing which to get.

At the end, I took the Nomos GMT Plus

My reason.. at RM 21K & RM 24K, I'd rather wait for the Dark Side of the Moon which is expected to cost slightly under RM 30K nett which is fully ceramic.
All 3 run the same 9300 co-axial chrono which is an excellent movement with no adverse feedback but then again, it really is a recent movement.
BTW the 9300's only visual setback is that being a twin barrel, it is a bit on the thick side.
Generally you do not come across any of the co-axial movements to-date having any issues reported.
Even the 3313 (the co-axial chrono calibre just before the 9300) in my previous Planet Ocean Chrono was excellent altho some internet reports were not so favorable but I had no issues using it for abt 6 yrs.

david, starting with the 2500 and 3313 co-axials, the accuracy was awesome already..
OTOH the 1866 in my previous Speedy Moonphase altho looking good, sucked at timekeeping despite being sent back for regulation, so I dumped it.
Even with all that history and with it the good looks BUT poor performance didn't cut it for me

I am never a fan of the co-axial movement though I am an Omega fan. I started collecting the Omega legendary speedmaster during the 90s....at one stage I was so crazy about speedy till my entire collection is only speedy....to me , I still prefer the old skool C321, C861 which still serve me well till today..the bonding between me and my speedy starts every morning when I wind it up...however I must admit that the new speedy is rather nice and appealing but it still cannot convince me that it is more superior than my C321...lastly , the resale for omega sucks in terms of value ..just my 2 cents of humble opinion ...I just park under the tree and wait for good buy

now you remind me, but good thing about this new model the size is 41mm which a lot smaller than previous 44.5mm speedy

still, if i have a choice to get a new speedy again, this would be the perfect one

aiya david, you never told me you wanted to buy the 9300 ma…

I saw this Speedy in the same shop in Japan too.. forgot the price though but quite reasonable… under 14K if I'm not wrong..

3313 hv plenty of issues when it started according to swatch service center insider info
( I hearsay only )
Due the co-axial just being introduce, the oil quality and quantity bcom issue
Not all technician well informed about amount of oil to be used at escapement

My close colleague hv his planet ocean chrono back to service center after 2 weeks of wearing twice
After that it is flawless

8500 been very very accurate so far
9300 not yet geiboh

You're correct. I came across the same reports.
Thats why I bought my 3313 Planet Ocean after the issue had been solved. It was only a lubrication issue.
The fundamental design was sound.

david, you can check out the bell & ross/omega  boutique in 1 utama new wing for this First Omega in Space model. Think it was just slightly over rm15k rrp when I last tried it on.

I agree and that's why am waiting for the arrival of Dark Side of the Moon so I can compare all 3 versions in steel, titanium and ceramic. Steel with bracelet rrp here is rm27k.

Thanks euclidorus, the only reason i love this so much because of the skirt-less design near to the crown, which is more easy to wind the watch compare with the normal speedy, just my personal preference :)

Should be around low 26k mark. The blue dial steel case is my fav. Dark side of the moon is quite large at 44mm.

I guess most manufacture are placing a premium on in house movement. IWC and many more are testament to that policy. Comparatively, Rolex looks like good value if one places emphasis on proven reliability of its movement.

26k

 :o

I too second that!! A bit much for an Omega isn't it?

If problems arise with the Co-axial, they will rectify it. If you want to buy one, better ask a knowledgeable sales rep about its service first, what if things go wrong etc. As you sifus may know, after warranty then you pay for repairs. But if anything happens during warranty, watch rate, power reserve problems etc, they will solve it for you.
I'm a a soft spot for the co-axial because of George Daniels. respect him a lot.
Each handmade watch is sold with part of the watchmakers soul. The effort to make the watch perfectly flawless like a gem, takes a lot of the watchmakers concentration. You pay for the "Loving attention" they give to each movement and watch.

On a strap is already at 26k. If with bracelet, it must be getting close to Daytona territory. And the 4130 movement has been acknowledged as one of the best chrono movements. Or save some coins and get a Zenith chrono at 36,000 bph.

could be most exp for non-gold speedy by far

just got myself a PO 9300, the movement is incredible accurate, as good as 8500, zero per day !

will try out with chrono running together if the accuracy will be affected, i assume the silicon hairspring does the diff by avoiding any magnetic field

9300 movement is rather young only announced in year 2011, reliability is still a question in watch world, but yet hearing any bad feedback about the movement by far.... :)

I could be more ignorant to expect a steel Omega RRP to be between 10-20k only..
