Why is panerai so famous?
« on: September 26, 2013, 06:32:31 PM »
I was just wondering why is panerai so famous? As i look at the brand, most of model look similar with no much different. I can't even differentiate what model is the watch just by looking.

Mind sharing what so special about panerai?  :-\

Stirring the hornet's nest? Try using the search function here and read a few threads, then you'll know why it's famous

Popular or famous?

Can't answer for the rest, but I like them because I like my watches large due to the fact that I have a large wrist (read fat). I like my watch toolish and robust and perhaps even value for money. Panerai seems to fit the bill (at that time). I like the fact that it use to be limited in production numbers, hard to get, and a military secret. Ok maybe not the last one. I like the simple dial layout, minimalist in approach and easy to read at a glance. Sadly, all these are no longer true of the brand. As such, I no longer buy them new but rather preloved and only specific models. I still like the watches they make, but they are moving up the food chain. However there is a replacement in Tudor. They (Tudor) are currently at where Panerai was back in 1997/1998.

Famous due to Stallone wear it
It's a Hollywood thing
All the big guy in Hollywood wear it
So man!

The design play a part, simple, military, highly legible.... N It's one hell of a big macho watch when the world still on small watches!

On top of that, the strong DNA of its luminor crown guard on cushion case... U can tell this is a Pam from 10m away....
So u will fell in love to it.... Or just hate it!

Then when it bcom popular, the demand is higher then supply....
Watch kaki ard the world knowing its presence Bcoz, it never on the display of any AD!

It was like steel Daytona those day....

More at fault would be cash-rich buyers who know nothing about watches and were recommended to buy them by sellers. Advertising is good eh?

Dpkong: No interest of stirring the hornet. Just wondering what make consumer crazy for the brand. It could be either history, movement, design, pricing, limited production or others. I have go through the forum, i found IWC, Omega and especially Tudor have some interesting model but not Panerai. Yet, i still c many Panerai watch posted and wanted to know why . There must be a reason people choose it.

I do agree with chrisyen. The luminor crown guard do look good and is an attention grabber. :) i love that too.

Among the above choices, I'd say it's others

Most people chose it because it's Panerai. Just like how everyone wanted a Pajero in the early 90s..

Panerai is sooo famous that it could use unfinished movements in their watches and fans are still happy because it could one day become a priceless collectible. Soo power!  ;D

unwanted mistakes/blunder is the real "limited edition"

My personal "chart"

back when I'm 20's - I wanted a TAG, (I can't afford)
now I'm 30's, I want a Panerai. (I cant' afford, I mean I could but would require sacrificing many other things)
But when I'm 50's, I "would" want a Rolex.

Why PAM famous?

 - Due to watch magazines, celebrities, watch forums...etc

Why PAM popular?

 - Due to strap changing, good resale value, good looking...etc

I don't think power attraction only apply PAM.. Basically all watch have the power of attraction.. Just a like Tudor Pelagos, when i put it in my hand.. totally fell in love with it..  ;D

Unfortunately, just not enough fund to bring it back. :P

I guess if you make just one thing and you make it good, customer will always come back for it.

Just like that uncle that has been frying cha kui tiau for the past 30 years on the street, people will drive more than 1 hrs just to eat there.

If you are presenting this as fact, I'd like to see some real marketing research info to back this up. It's just an opinion on your part, albeit a common one held against "brand x" you are prejudiced against. This canard by the way does not reflect on the merit (or the lack of) of the watch itself. I've heard the same applied to Rolex.

In fact, this accusation can be leveled at about just every mass marketed luxury brand.
