Lets see your impulse buy watches
« on: May 17, 2010, 06:36:33 PM »
Follow up topic hehe so lets see the impulse buy watches that you purchased.
Are they still in your collection?
Have they moved on?

My first impulse but was this Universal Geneve Polerouter Date from the flea market at Amcorp mall. My first vintage piece.
Wasted some money giving it a service and then traded it in for another watch. Was in my collection for about 3months.

Next up is this beautiful Tissot Seastar, case and everything is well refinished but not sure bout the dial. Still looks clean though.
Problem with it was fast 4mins per day. After a "free service" after i bought a watch from a shop the rotor was actually hitting the casing!
Shop keep saying its normal and i ended up asking the stall in the flea market to sell it for about rm50 loss.

Next was bought new, i have always loved semi skeleton/see through dials and this one was a budget buy.
Too bad i just could not get the bracelet to fit correctly although i like the watch very much.
But it did ended up as a birthday gift to my uncle and he likes it alot. So it still stays in the family.

So lets see yours if you have them.
Do you still like it or sold it off?

Haa.. nice history. It brings back memories..

My first serious mechancial watch is an Oris, A limited edition with no. 999/999. Thought it was a good find but its not what turn out to be... Sold it at a loss at lelong way back in the 1996's. Next comes a brand new 15200, then the rest is history...lost counts of flipping. At one time my inventory is huge that I myslf became paranoid.

Disposing one at a time over a period and has now regroup back my resources.

I am almost a recovered watchaholic, but last checked shows only 70% recovered. How?

Ya man..take +-1-2 years during the 1996+, sold a few 6694 back then.

Those days, you could hardly find fakes at lxlong. Now its full of@#$%^.

Sorry, no pics, those days, digital camera is quite rare and expensive.

I am guilty of some impulse buys when I first started this hobby.

All have since gone to new homes:

Glycine Incursore 44mm. Was quite appealing in the beginning, but somehow lost the love shortly after.

Ball Moonphase. Before I bought it I thought "Wow, what a beautiful watch! The tritium stars and moon looks so cool". After I bought it, I asked myself "Why would I use a moonphase for?". Then decided to let it go. But feeling some regret now though. I still think it's a very beautiful and unique time piece.

Seiko Sawtooth. Was just starting to learn about seikos. Saw the tuna and loved it. Saw this poor man's version at a good price and couldn't resist. Later decided it was too big for me. So off it went to a new home.

All gone but at least I still have pictures for memories.

My first impulse purchase was a Blancpain Leman which was bought due to sales and love at first sight.  I am still keeping it as it was my first mechanical watch.  The moon watch was a semi impulse purchase as I always wanted the moon watch.  Now it is given to my dad.

Recently, I did my impulse purchase on a Ball Fireman II early last year (?) and the Seiko Discus Burger recently.  The Ball Fireman II is actually quite OK but it is just the competition for attention is too keen  ;D and this one I have not worn it often and not the last few weeks!  The Seiko is too new and too unique for me to be tired of it.

This is my very first mechanical watch (Longines Conquest). An impulse buying, because the AD offer some free goodies on top of discount...
After purchase, I realize that no lume on dial/hands  ??? Lesson learn to me, do some research on the spec, review, etc before buying...
Anyway, still love the watch   ;D

yup, that watch has no lume on hands. I had already check the automatic conquest without chronograph at the ad last week. After read about the lume. I think I have a doubt buying that watch.
