Advice needed...omega or tudor for daily beater?
« on: July 30, 2013, 09:58:25 PM »
Hi gurus,

I'm looking for a daily beater and have narrowed down my search to
1) Omega Seamaster 300M ceramic
2) Tudor Pelagos

Can someone help to advice on which one is the better choice?

not a guru but I used to own the Omega SMP Seamaster Co-Axial.
Just got the Pelagos recently.

Both priced quite close with the Pelagos costing slightly more. Both using ETAs, the Omega with a Co-Axial escapement

Omega's pros- very accurate, more dressy than the Pelagos, gorgeous bracelet but very prone to scratches, makes you feel like Bond, a model that has evolved through many versions
Pelagos' pros- killer lume on both bezel and dial, looks more tool like, beautifully sculpted titanium case, bracelet and an expandable, very comfortable folding clasp, a totally new model

Pelagos far fewer owners.......

I prefer the Pelagos by far, no doubt...

Did you just say PO??   Yes, that is a fantastic choice. I also have the sub-C date, but between the 2, I'll go for the PO anytime. Super accurate watch with the new Cal. 8500.

Sorry....old picture.

When you have 2-3 Fun Daily watches - Tudor

If you get the Pelagos or the Omega PO, you might still hunger for the Sub C Date. Go for the one that you really yearn for.. :Praying:

My vote is the Pelagos....most visually balanced timepiece I have seen in recent times.......but then that's just my OCD kicking in.

For quite awhile you were averse to Omegas but now an Omega convert.....

The new 8500 & 9300 movements are really excellent..really up there, both visually and technically.., pricing of Omegas fast approaching Rollie territory...

To be fair however, I still think the 904L steel of Rollies is superior, wonder why no other manufacturer uses them..

Pelagos... it is not so common and looks functionally cooler... although i wish it was made out of stainless steel though... at the end of the day, whatever you think looks better on your wrist...

Another vote for Tudor Pelagos. The overall look of the Pelagos is cleaner and the dial has better contrast for easier reading IMO.

Those criterias are important for me as the daily beater.

get both
here's how:
First get the Omega.. shop around.. some ADs are giving pretty good discount.
The Pelagos is still relatively new... standard/no discount given. After a year or so, re-visit the Pelagos.

the two you mention have ceramic bezels.
if i was going to get a daily beater with a ceramic bezel, hands down it will be the Oris Aquis :P

Vote definitely goes to Tudor Pelagos. But as one of the MWF mentioned, you might yearn for Sub not long after.

My vote is for the Omega...
But then again this is a bias answer as I have an Omega PO.. nad use to have the SMP 300

TheSMP300 stands out more than the Pelagos.
Try it on at the shop and take the protective plastic off when you do.
Good luck.

since is a beater, i'd go for pelagos, for long term services and maintain are cheaper compare to SMP, no doubt SMP have better movement

one thing to consider is pelagos is Titanium which is harder to get it polish compare to omega, other wise its a killer looking watch
