How times flies…
Malaysia used to be a tax free haven for watches but not anymore.
Since the implementation of GST last April, watch acquisition has gone down trend. At least that’s my view. Coupled with the unflavored exchanged rates, watch aficionados finds the current prices not attractive anymore? Maybe then, another new batch of watch enthusiasts emerges from the new horizon?
So, what now?. Are you prepared to pay the extra percentage to get your next holy grail or are you looking elsewhere, overseas buy or perhaps online buying from international community?
Watch lovers with deep pockets should have no issues but people like you and me..(”grin”)
Nowadays, a simple Rolex Air King (14000) takes approx.. RM9-10k after some hard bargain. These model can be had for just RM6k plus…earlier. And that the common scenario. Heck, now its even difficult to own a nice mechanical Oris (where got quartz Oris).
But look on the bright sides, more people are now looking at the AP, Hublot, PP and whats not..(”grin again”).
The current ‘Steel bezel’ Rolex Daytona are nowhere to be seen in an AD. Believe me, these models will ‘shoot’ up like crazy (once they stop productions?) and people are now waiting for the newly introduction of the up and coming ‘ceramic’ bezel Daytona. Just like the Exp 2 (40mm) these 2008 up models are costing a bomb.
So, for the more or less the same amount of $$, I would rather go for the used Daytona than the current new‘Batman’.
Above are my personal views.
What say you?
