Who are those sleeping members?
« on: April 08, 2009, 04:55:50 PM »
We have a very interesting scenario here, i would like to know what you guy's thoughts . Having 60 ++ member to date, we have merely 10 people who i considered 'active' in giving and sharing comments, where are the remaining members and why are they being so quiet ? I was first thought of making this a poll but imagine a poll voted by only 10 people aren't reliable anyway . So i list down few possibilities here and we can discuss about it. Cheers

Who are the sleeping members?
a)   Member who joined but don’t bother to give comments
b)   Member who joined but too shy to give comments
c)   Foreign watch trader –
d)   Local watch retailer / pre-owned shop owner
e)   Local tax officer / enforcer
f)   Others

I don't think we have 60 members...a lot are spam! Danny found some members are coming from the same IP address which doesn't make sense...

but i do agree some members are sleeping now but i'm sure when times come, they will contribute :)

Cheers!

Hi Guys,

There are a few things that come to mind:
1. the super excellent rocket speed of our broadband (sarcasm added) which makes everything possible on the go.
2.keen but lack of enthusiasm and contributing to the lack of enthusiasm is 3 below
3.mwf is poisonous and this is not a cheap pursuit (as many people perceive) the more one delves into our forum the more holes in the pocket
4.the patek and rolex mentality but nice to check out what the other fools are doing (this fool branding is personal to me but not to our gracious mwf community since i have been come across a fool for appreciating other brands)  :Laughing_on_floor:

Just my take no offence intended in anyway to anyone, keep the MWF spirit going, blessings on good friday.

Hi guys,
I think it's normal for a large percentage of registered members to be the silent majority. Generally they enjoy reading the ongoing discussions until the time is right for them to participate on a more active basis.
Take for example the ever popular R*l*xforums. Their registered members total 22600+, but the most number of people online is only 466. That gives a ratio of 2.06%. Ours is around 14% (9/64), so it's not too bad. The percentage of MWF members who are active is actually quite high.

Having said that, about slightly more than half the registration are by spam bots. I've been banning these spam accounts, but they still show up in the total tally. Maybe I should just delete these accounts outright so that the correct number of members will be shown.

I think we don't really have to worry about the number of active members as long as the discussions are friendly, educational and enjoyable. Still, it would be great if the forum membership could grow to reflect the popularity of watch collecting as a hobby amongst Malaysians.
On the other hand if this place grows too popular, I'm afraid my server may be overloaded or the bandwidth quota exceeded.

Just my 2 cents.

No worries. At the moment my server still has sufficient capacity and bandwidth.
I hope you are kidding about contacting Francis Yeoh. If you actually contact him, better invite to join our forum first before asking for sponsorship.  ;D

I would rather that he sponsor the project watch and bring the price tag a little lower. Maybe we can even call it Starhill LE.

You are right. I was used to be the silent majority and I was not even a member but browsing through MWF as a guest somemore.

But rest assure that MWF comments on watches are very influential  onto those people looking for decent watches as gift idea.

Just went to  "Member" section and did a rough math. MWF member total number is 30members/page x 280 pages = 8400!

Hello, I'm new here and also new in the "watch buying experience" myself. Bought a brand new bell and ross rs17 renault f1 few months back.

Would like to seek more guidance and gain more knowledge in buying an epic time pieces by joining this forum.

Just saw AP offshore diver last week in AP boutique starhill and I'm having a relentless night so far.

Nice meeting you guys.

 :)
