What are you looking for? Issued watches? Military inspired watches?

I guess I can count as one. Can you be more specific on what you are looking for?

The only G-Shock I know with military linkage is the Sky Cockpit. The rest of them are bought off the shelf by the military personnel or purchase department. I suspect even with the Sky Cockpit it don't see any military action.

Regard
Tyler

Actually I'm also interested into military watches, not military related marketing or inspired, but real military issued vintage.

Lets keep this good thread going, and every info and help is greatly appreciated.

Some pics borrow from the internet, showing why military vintage watches rocks.  ;D

If you are looking for military watch for today's soldier, look at CWC (Cabot Watch Company), they are supplying watches to British army forces since the 70's.

According to those currently serving, the most popular watches in the military are G-Shocks. Several have been issued, but I don't know which ones off the top of my head.

As mentioned above, CWC have been issued to the British forces. Precista, too (the older models, not the new ones by Eddie at TZUK). A couple of Seiko chronos were issued to the RAF in the 80s.

The Sinn EZM1was issued to German special forces. Possibly some other models, too.

Some Gallet chronos have been issued to at least one air force.

Going back a bit further, IWC, JLC, Stowa, Laco, and Omega have all been issued at various times.

And then there is what many collectors would consider the grail, the Mil Sub.

So many to choose from... Depending on your budget, you could spend $100 or $100,000. Enjoy the hunt, and post pics of your acquisition!

No, Panerai hasn't been a military watch for about 70 years.

OP, what is your budget? Are you looking for a modern military watch (i.e. quartz, probably digital) or vintage?

Like you, I got very interested in military timepieces in particular those from the 2nd world war era a few years back. The internet was not too helpful at that time, so the only good source of information was printed books; one of which is ZM Wesolowski's "Military Timepieces 1880 - 1990".

(http://i1244.photobucket.com/albums/gg574/loochunboon/military_zps04e5498d.jpg) (http://s1244.photobucket.com/user/loochunboon/media/military_zps04e5498d.jpg.html)

The book was published in 1996, so you can imagine the information contained in which is at least 17 years old. Notwithstanding its age, this book is still a good starting point for one to learn more about military watches from that period. Of course, one still cannot say the book provides the"history" of these watches because this is just a secondary material and I believe we'll need to get corroboration from primary sources before we can call anything history. But anyone wanting to know more about military timepieces should get a copy of this book (if it's still in publication).....

Some pages to give you some idea.....

Sorry....I think the pictures above appeared up side down.... ;D

Anyway, one of the watches featured in the book was a Siegerin made for Kriegsmarine (KM - the german navy).....

(http://i1244.photobucket.com/albums/gg574/loochunboon/military7_zps0cc4a1d3.jpg) (http://s1244.photobucket.com/user/loochunboon/media/military7_zps0cc4a1d3.jpg.html)

I managed to purchase a Siegerin some years back. Unfortunately the dial was refurbished and the plexi glass (probably not the original one) is cracked. All these of course adversely affect its value and collectability...

This is not a military watch.  It was 'tested' by some SEALs in a cynical marketing exercise.

Quartz is good enough for me, and I am still young, not yet as an vintage watch collector.  Within 2k is acceptable for my current income.  Sorry, I read from the newspaper few weeks ago mentioning Penerai was produced to Italian army, but don't really know that they have stop producing for the army usage so long ago.  Not bad strategy by Penerai since it could convert from a military producer to fashion/premium/pricey watch.......

Is this the CWC that made the Nautilus lookalike?

No. That is produce by Classic Watch Company, but not to be confuse with a watch dealer in UK with the same name. Google search will only yeild the later. The CWC who make Nautilus lookalike is much more shaddy organisation, no official website, no address, and apparenly the Nautilus is the only model I saw their name on it.

Nothing wrong with a young bloke to go vintage. In fact, I'll give a higher respect for a young man with tasteful vintage on his wrist anyday. 2K is a very good start for vitage, and you might get more than one watch with that budget.

The company that makes military watches is Cabot Watch Company (CWC). You should be able to find some information about their watches at the military watch forum also.

The company that makes military watches is Cabot Watch Company (CWC). You should be able to find some information about their watches at the military watch forum also.

To clear things up, here's a clarification.

1st CWC
Cabot Watch Company
Description: Nice watch company making nice utility watches, officially supplying watches for British Army forces since 70's.

2nd CWC
Classic Watch Company Ltd.
Description: A respectable watch dealer based in Brighton, UK. Owned by a man called Martin Kaye.

3rd CWC or WCC
Classic Watch Company (watchmaker)
Description: A shaddy company without official website, no valid address or any corporate information. Known for making high quality PP Nautilus Homage watch.

Hopefully this will help.

Have you decided which way you want to go on the military watch front. I am not expert, but I do like military watches and military inspired watches and watches used by people in the military (not issued). Are you looking at a simple quartz model or mechanical? Are you looking at American issued or inspired watches? British? Australian? Italian? German? Others? What is you budget?

You can start with simple and cheap (but some say not robust) watches like the Pulsar. They are simple watches and don't cost a bomb to buy. Most goes for about RM200. Then you have the CWC/ Precista watches. These are the original issued ones (to the British military), like the W10 or others (Royal Navy, RAF or even the Marines). They are nice and not so cheap. But can be had for below RM500.

If you are looking at mechanical watches, you have the W.W.W. watches. Again to the British army. There are a number of makers (12) and price range is pretty large. The popular brands are Cyma, Omega and IWC. I am looking to get one as well (between an Omega, IWC or Longines). OF course I would love to get an IWC mk xi....

There are other like the Tudor MN Subs and the Rolex Milsub.  ;D

The most important thing is to buy the seller and be careful. There are many franken watches as are there fakes. Try to get them verified, but note that this can add extra to the price of the watch, for example, an IWC military with a cert from IWC itself can add plenty to the cost of the watch as you have to send the watch back to IWC for verification and that can take sometime.

All the best with the hunt.
