Hey all....Just joined this forum today :)
I've never really been a watch wearer, however, nowadays I seem to wear a lot more dress shirts and have functions to go to etc...and I have started to feel like my hand is slightly naked without a watch... :)
I was actually keen on the Mont Blanc Summit

But recently a friend talked to me about the Stowa Antea

Now i dunno what to do...i actually really like the Stowa...and at about RM 1.8k (with shipping) it seems like a steal...
Ive never really set a budget cos I dont know much about watches..
What do you all think?

Welcome aboard.
First, read more on watches, which type of watches smile more on you. Then set a budgets and narrow down your wants.

Both look clean and dressy to me. But bear in mind that with Stowa, you need to pay VAT and not to mention the waiting period.

Apparently VAT is included with the price...

That's minus point of Stowa, apprarently apart from all Non-EU contries, only Malaysia and Singapore buyers need to pay VAT :thumbsdown:

i suggest u cast yr net wider...perhaps a walk to the usual watch authorised dealers will help? or join the members here in their 2nd hand watch tour/gathering will be beneficial...take your time...don't rush into it

Agreed with James, don't rush ;)
But if you want to get one to start with, personally, I will prefer Stowa over Montblanc. MYR1800 seem good deal regardless the VAT.

You don't need to pay for tax if you have a fedex account. (to Malaysia)

Why not consider Seiko Spirit (if you can still find) or the newer version.

Yea, for me the main thing about the Stowa is the waiting time...im real itchy to get a watch sometime end of the month :(

some people choose based on history..
some people choose based on brand...to these people, the `feeling' of wearing a Stowa is more `right' than a Mont Blanc...
some people choose based on movement (what's inside)..
most people choose based on dial (because honestly, that is what you see all the time)...
find out which is really you, and choose the watch....
for example, dont get carried away by those who likes to talk above movement....if you're not one who appreciates movement..i know of friends who bought a piece because he was so influenced by movement, but at end of day, sold it off a low price because he confessed...its the `dial' that i see everyday....and went for a common ETA watch...

Pexus - I like your part about the movement and the dial. You are right - we read the dial more that the movement.
Once, I had skeleton watch -where you can view both side......but at the end of the day, I sold it off...why?..because I can hardly read the time...
So now, I will look out for easy to read dial and of course, a good and reliable make. Most important, that watch must smile at you.

i'm new and was very happy to find this forum. Recently i have been looking for a couple of Seikos, mainly the Seiko Sumo and the new Seiko SRP043 200m Diver. Can anyone tell me where i can find these awesome divers in KL? Thank you very much.

Seiko Monster and the right diver you can find in most of the watchshops here. Sumo is not officially here but you can find it in a watchshop at SS2 :thumbsup:

I wouldn't go near the Montblanc. They are not a watchmaker, just a penmaker seeking to expand their franchise through third party manufacturing. Also, anything over RM1,000 is expensive for a quartz watch unless it's a certified chronometer or has special functions. If you want a really elegant Swiss dress watch for less than the Montblanc, try a Mido Baroncelli. You can get them as cheap in Malaysia as you can on the web (if you bargain a bit), and you'll get a full manufacturer's guarantee. A slightly more expensive - but very elegant - alternative is an Edox Les Bemonts. The Showa is made in Germany. Germans make elegant cars and Swiss make elegant watches.
