I don't have a Pam and my knowledge certainly cannot be compared to some of the knowledgable Ristians here...

but since I've had the privilege of learning from them freely, here's me trying to return the favor to others...

1. look at the `base' models.  The 000 and 112 are the most popular and affordable base models.  It seems that no matter what Pam collectors have, they will always have one base model.  In fact, there is an interesting thread somewhere in this forum with a poll on which model is more popular

2.  Are second hands important to you? From what I read, some find it a must (to see if their watch is ticking).  To some, it makes the dial looks busy.  If you can decide on this, then it will narrow down your choices

3.  Sandwich or painted dial.  Both are beautiful and from what I read, its really up to the preference of the owner

4.  Do you want to see the movement? If yes, it will further narrow down your choices....I think they call it solid case back vs display

5.  check out the gallery and review section in this forum.  Killer pics and reviews available.

I think u wont go wrong with any of the models that u mentioned.
Except for the 312, all of em are using 3rd party movements. Also the 312 has the easier strap change system, which makes it harder for u to scratch yr Pam when u change straps.
Get the one tat comes your way and u feel syiok about it. The one that makes your heartbeat a little faster .  ;D

a lot of this type of question in regards to the base models have been answered. You just have to go through them in the general discussion or via the search function. You will see that the 000 or the 112 are the more popular models. Unless you dont like the handwinding ones and more keen of an auto that the 312 is the model for you.As for whether the AD have them, the only way is to pay them a visit. Even if there is no stock, you could put your name down on the waiting list.

000. The rest you will end up getting variation of them but 000 stand on its own. No substitute unless you go PreV which is a BMW(bloody mahal watch).

I would get the 000 as my 1st unless you want to go PreV.

Thanks bro pexus, glysinn and g. Mac for giving info.... I think i personnally prefer 312.... Not only for the 1950 case but also the in house movement... Although someone previouslly at other forum did mentioned that this new movement is not that stable. But the current price for 111 which is nearly 20k with just ETA movement.... This a little bit held me back and need to think twice :) the problem for me is that i am not from kl.... So... This is not possible for me to pay visit to look for the models at various ADs within 1 day.... Hopefully any bro those always pay visit to ADs can inform me whether those models are available or not ... If yes which AD? And max discount?

If your heart sings for a 312 then just go for it, later onwards when you get Pam crazy then a base will also tend to be in your collection. In actuality any Pam will be nice once you know the history behind the brand. Sorry just a noob opinion though unlike many of the Ristis here.....

Get the one that sings to you. If it is the PAM00312, so be it. You re the one that is going to wear the watch and you are the only person the watch has to impress.

I have the PAM 351 which shares the same movement as the PAM312 with the difference being gold hands, tobacco dial and titanium case. As for the movement, there is no problems with mine so far. Only thing having a display caseback, makes it prone to magnetisation. Other than that, it is going on strong. Try looking at the Panerai site for the list of AD. As per forum rules, we cant discuss discounts here although i can safely say that discounts for Panerai, like Rolex, is extremely low and the prices are generally very stiff.

^^ What G.Mac said.

But mind you next you'll start thinking; now i need a sec counter then what about a date, would be nice to have a 1950 case maybe a radiomir how about boutique edition  :Laughing_on_floor:

Be prepared once bitten no more turning back

Among those models u mentioned the 111 moves me the most.... Mainly because it has a see thru case back and sandwich dial with manual winding.... Means u will need to wind/molest it every couple of days while admiring the mechanism with the see thru case back..... With the seconds hands u will know that ur watch is still working!!! Good luck with ur choice and post some pics when u get it....

Dear sifus,
What do you guys think about 177 (Luminor Marina Titanio with seconds hand)?
I initially plan to go for 104 (but open to the base classic models too), the AD only has 177 available. I don't really fancy the brown strap but the AD will happily swap for me.
I am indecisive, I don't really wanna pay a higher price for the Titanium case. I have 2 questions: -
* Generally what is the 2nd hand value attached with the 177? In case I grew less fond of it in the future and wishes to dispose it.
* What is the major difference between a 005 and a 177?

Many thanks in advance.

i think you need to know if you want to go after a automatic with date or a manual winding watch.
because you're now choosing between 2 very different watches.

as for 2nd hand, they are both about the same, but of cos one may be easier to sell as it's deem more practical than the other (to some).

major differences
<177> titanium, manual winding, clear caseback, gator with tangbuckle, sandwich dial

<005> steel, manual winding, steel solid caseback, calf with tang buckle, painted dial, +logo

<104> steel, automatic with date, steel solid caseback, gator with deployment, painted dial

If you worry about second hand value then you should just seek a 000. The price is more stable. Always a watch I would buy if I am starting going into panerai. I didn't because I have already plan out my collection with a theme.

Ask your AD for the 000 you might have to press them because it's a hot seller. If anything fail seek help from bro dsiewmy or CKNg515 to see whether they can locate one for you at cheaper price.  ;D

If you're don't mind about hand winding.. Just go for the Pam 000!
With the logo that look so nice!

Zero is hero
but
210 is Zen

The device for protecting the crown, whilst a definite panerai thing, is a later version.
Only my opinion mind you and as a left hand person, without wanting to own a destro, the Radiomir models don't dig into the wrist.

But above all, whatever makes your heart beat faster and your wallet thinner, go for it!

The more I read about the post, the more I question my decision. Hahaha...
It seems that most of you all opt for the 000 model huh?
Alas, 000 is not available, I made off with the 005 model. I wanted to believe it's still a viable choice.
I haven't own any manual winding watch before, so this will be a good time to see whether I "mind" the daily winding :)
Personally, I actually don't like the logo on PAM000, it doesn't balance with the top part bearing the Luminor wording and the bottom part with Panerai and Logo. PAM005 looks more balanced, as there're 2 lines on top, and 2 lines (well, 1 line and 1 logo) at the bottom.
Yes, I'm trying to convince myself it's a correct decision :)

Anyway thanks for the advice guys. Really appreciate it.

i think the 1st question to ask ur self is this - radiomir or luminor??...

i have had 2 luminors n sold them...just didnt sing to me no matter how much i tried to love them...now i have a 292 n its like "damn!!...i should have bought this in the 1st place and saved quite a bit on the depreciation from the 2 luminors i sold off"

so take some time n feel your heart....after all, u r buying the pam for urself n no one else....

just my 2 cents...cheers

Well, whatever model you are getting, try to stick with 44mm at least and skip 40mm. also, generally stick with black face and not white. 40mm and white one is less popular. you may find it difficult to sell later.

005 is a good decision, better than the 000 for the same reasons you mention.
Wear it in good health.

My first PAM was a 177.
Loved the look, the feel of the Ti case, but the crown protector didn't sit well with me, being a left handed person.
Had no trouble selling it, a friend bought it from me the minute I mentioned I was thinking of selling.

Now, I have two Radiomirs, a 287 ad a 210. Both different in their own way and I really like them both. Then, as always happens, one of my most desired PAMS was for sale.
What to do? Well, I bought the grail, a 141.
So sadly, I will sell the 287, which is a shame, as it sits so well on the wrist and doesn't feel as heavy as any of the auto Luminors. I'm a Radiomir man I guess.

cheers

You have to to think like this......  ;D

There's no such thing as 1 or even 2 Panerai. Once you start you'll end up with at least 3 or a dozen.  :o

Do you want your collection to look like you have 80% small seconds model? (Luminor Marina) Because most Luminor comes with small seconds where only a few are without. The logo (PAM 000), The PreA (PAM 002, 009) and the PAM 210 (2 lines) variety that house in Luminor case.

Eventually you will want a base logo (PAM 000) unless you go PreV. I would be cautious about not trying to sell my watch too often because 90% of the time is taking a loss unless it's a super rare watch but we're not taking about that.

You should ask about the owner who do own both the PAM 000 and the PAM 005 and ask them in the end which one do you keep. The answer would surprise you.

If you can stay just with 2 panerai

A PAM 000 and PAM 210 would be my choice. I didn't do it because I found out I can't stay with 2.

I need four. LOL

A Sub: PAM 64 aka La Bomba
(http://i1079.photobucket.com/albums/w501/TdBean/P10503921.jpg)

A Mare Nostrum: 5218-301/A
(http://i1079.photobucket.com/albums/w501/TdBean/1993MareNostrum1.jpg)

A Radiomir: PAM 232 still hunting
(http://i1079.photobucket.com/albums/w501/TdBean/00017432.jpg)

A Lumonor: PAM 36
(http://i1079.photobucket.com/albums/w501/TdBean/P1370692.jpg)

See what I mean when I say there no such thing is only 1 Panerai  ;)

Thanks for sharing guys, really appreciate your thoughts, especially Godzillaz for some really cool pics.
I thought I'll be happy with my PAM005 (which I still am) but it's taking me a long time to adjust to a dateless version. I'm too used to looking at watch for the date.
Sigh... in a couple of years I may end up getting my original goal, which is the PAM104.
Which means I have 2 years to convince my wife to love PAM, so she can occasionally wear my 005  :Laughing_on_floor:

Finally ! got my first pam during a trip to Singapore 2 days ago.... already booked PAM 112 from [AD name removed - Forum Mod] since 3 weeks ago and they said cannot hold it any longer....so no choice , hav to plan my family vacation earlier and retrieve it. on that day , just simply ask them whether they have pam 111 or not .surprisingly they said they just received 1 unit 1 day ago and willing to let me choose between them . At the end just fix to my old choice since i found that the dial of 112 looks more simple and nice :) .   Quite satisfied with the price since i can get [No mention of discount allowed - Forum Mod] discount from list price + 7% GST refund :p
