Hi watch gurus... I need some advice. I have 3 watches in mind, wish I could have all 3 but my budget only allows me 1. I am contemplating between the Rolex explorer II (42mm), PAM00320 and Jaeger squadra home time. Appreciate your views ;D

Rolex.
-
Rolex
-
Dear Bro,
may i suggest you include super ocean GMT,
i found it better feature and quality for money than pam or explorer orange 2
(http://i1048.photobucket.com/albums/s364/jay_jay2x/CXV%20and%20DQ/superocean%20GMT/photo-1.jpg)
(it's has 3 time zones)
-

42mm Rolex Explorer 2...
... wihte dial !!
-
Thank you all... I have my eyes set on the white dial since the beginning. Let the hunt begin!
I have been to almost all Rolex AD.. No stock! Sigh... Have to try harder or practice patience.... :Blue:
-
there was one last Xmas at Pavillion. it was in the safe and the nice sales rep. showed it to me. premium price though but bring cash and haggle. there's another on sale on a popular local marketplace website.
PM me if you need a contact for the shop at Pavillion.
-
Rolex for me as well. Just a personal preference though.
-
Pm you already where to buy rolex explorer orange
-
An alternative is to get the old explorer II... The ADs are giving discount for the old model.... :Blue:
-
if you don have a pcs of rolex then go for rolex. if you own 1 then go for pam
-
between 3, i will for the Explorer.. ;D ;D
-
Rolex FTW all day n night!!!!! :Dancing_banana:
-
start with a rolex
-
wow~! looks like Rolex sure wins hands down! it is like the holy grail of watches :Praying:
-
i would not buy any timepiece with premium price but if u have money then dont have to bother.
of coz still opt for rolex.
-
interesting comment rockdaman.. maybe this could spark another discussion.. what is the perfect price/value ratio for a watch? and how much would you pay for the watch of your dream? interesting indeed. :)
-
Rolex Explorer II Black Dial
PM me i have lobang but in JB.
Between the 3 i would always go with Rolex. Good luck hunting.
-
Each of the brand has their own uniqueness and nobody beats or win.
I have choosen rolex because to me it has the best 2nd hand value and better known outside the mass market.
I am not rich enough yet so 2nd value had been my first priority.
-
looks like rolex is bringing down the house.
oh well, i had 4 rolexes before moving over to panerai. (sub, gmt2c, daytona white & black)
now that i'm with panerai, i haven't looked at other brands *yet* but may change as i get older i think.
first of all i really think u shd decide for urself, by looking at the watch.
taking pam320 and rolex exp2 as an example.
- do u like bracelets or leather straps?
- both watches are versatile and be used for many functions, so nothing much to say here except u can buy way more straps with a panerai ;D
- which brand image u prefer "rolex" or "panerai"?, u have to read a bit more about their stories which makes buying it more fun
- read a bit about second hand value, if this is important to u
- if u r like me, u like to collect and even consider how the BOX looks like, take a look and compare between what u get with rolex, and what u get with panerai
- price that u r paying, are they similar against RRP, or premium? or %discount?
more things for u to ponder before splashing ur hard earned cash on a timepiece.

i agree with what u say, but need to add one more thing.
because rolex is so well known to mass market, sometimes it works against its brand.
example, not many want a watch that every tom dick and harry knows cost $XX,XXX, i for one prefer my watch to be subtle and only known to a very few.
as for second hand value, i think u can easily check based on the sales forum here and maybe even in singapore.
both brands have strong 2nd hand value, albeit if u go to a pawn shop, then rolex wins for sure.
-
rolex anytime
-
all depend on u dude..... dont forgot to show us after buying k
-
Even if you can afford to buy all the most expensive watches in the world (you know, those with French and German names which 90% Malaysians will not be able to pronounce), you should still have at least 1 modern day rolex and a vintage one (with plastic crystal) in your top drawer. Nothing beats a rolex!!
-
wow.. thank you all for the advice.. i am overwhelmed! didn't know there are so many Rolex loyals  will definitely share the picture once i get it.. need to figure out how to upload the pictures.. :P
another thing.. all the pictures that you guys have uploaded are superb! i really enjoy looking at the photos! a lot of poison!

bwee,
I think you need to think long & hard on whether u intend to keep the watch for a long time or u will eventually flip it.
If u think that u will flip it to move on to a higher level eventually, then the Rollie is the most practical choice as it is easily tradeable.
At the same time u must remember that u r the one who will be looking at the watch everyday for the next few yrs (hopefully) and whether the watch 'speaks' to you or not is also important.
No one can speak for you as all our tastes are different. I had 4 Rollies and all of them have been replaced by Jaegers...not that I am right or the rest are wrong... I just didnt like wearing a watch that was produced closed to a million a year and paying such a high premium..not to mention having every other person that I knew having one..(real or fake being another matter)..I still have no regret selling off all the Rollies..You must also remember that your taste changes over time... To me I'm over the Rollie stage not that its not a good watch...
At this stage in my life a Lange, PP, GO, selected higher end JLCs & Grand Seikos lights my fire...
Even if everyone recommends a brand no matter which, you must first fall in love with it ..unless you are not sure of what you want yourself in which case, I would recommend that you wait until you see a watch in the metal that you really really lust after...

Totally agree!

ROLEX +1 vote
go for it!
-
Thanks JOS2012....your advice is very much appreciated and it makes a lot of sense... You (and most of the watch gurus here) give me the sense of 'been there, done that' unlike a beginner like me. I will definitely contemplate on the advice given and wait a while longer.. Although my hand is itching to wear one of the 3 watches (Rolex still the favorite) mentioned above... :Praying:...... Poison!

I checked on last month one of the Rolex AD white face 216710 is selling at retail price but no stock.
both dsiewmy and JOS2012 had explained well.
-
I was once crazy about Rolex due to the fame and resell value.
But when I finally had the courage to try one out in the AD, it doesn't really turn me on due to the size and weight which disappointed me.
But your choice of 216710 seems bigger and heavier
-
to be honest.. i have not had the chance to hold/fee/play with the new Explorer II (as all ADs do not have stock). i however, have first hand feel of the Jaeger Squadra Hometime and PAM00320 and the feel, weight and wrist presense is impressive for those 2. i have received some pm from our fellow forum members informing which watch shop has the stock. i may check it out this weekend... will drag wifey along too as she needs to give her nod of approval whether she likes what she sees on my wrist.
-
TIP..
buy her a Rolex first... then buy yours so she has nothing to say. been there, done that. that's how i got the approval..
hahaha...

-
That would be my next target
-

-
That would be my next target
JLC is nice..but do consider IWC as well....dress watches from them are really nice

Rolex is "King" among MWF members. Second is Pammie.
I, too, will go for the Rollie, if I save enough. ;D
-
I must highlight this very misleading, sweeping general statement...
"Rolex is 'King' , Pammie is 2nd amongst MWF members"
not everyone has the same taste...there are many long time collectors I know who do not agree to the statement above
-
to most Asians, Rolex is king. of course, some may not quite agree but then nearly everyone knows a Rolex even if they're not watch enthusiast like us so that statement may in fact, hold some truth.

i am new here. i for 1 agree with you as i do not own a rolex but i buy for my wife. i have JLC, PAM and AP. :)
-
I'd like to make myself crystal clear here in order that MWF members may not misconstrue that I'm anti-Rolex or anti-Pam or anti-whatever brand. Anyway I used to own 4 Rollies eons ago.
I do not hate any brands. Why should I ? If a person likes a brand which doesn't appeal to me,its his money to buy what he likes and likewise for me.
If I like a brand on the other hand, I'll make my comments on the brand. If the brand does not appeal to me, I would refrain from making any negative comments as I know that we all have different tastes and priorities.
If you read the comment made;
"Rolex is "King" among MWF members. Second is Pammie."
it insinuates that Rolex is accepted as King and Pammie is 2nd amongst ALL MWF members…
The person making the comment cannot make such statements on my behalf nor can he make such a statement of ALL MWF members or even generalise. that's the point I was trying to make.
If the post had read
"Rolex is "King" amongst some or most MWF members. Second is Pammie' I would not have been irked…
Anyway a small matter but I felt that I needed to make it clear that the comment made was too sweeping and presumptous and di d not represent my views.
No more comments from me on this thereafter...

I stand correct based on the following link :

Anyway, to each, his own.
I disagree with the part " that the comment made was too sweeping and presumptous and di d not represent my views." The comment was made based on the recent MWF survey of which the result shows that Rollie was the popular choice and followed by Pam. Of course the survey does not meant it represent the views of many who did not took part in it or who had voted for other makes/brands but IMO the survey represents what the majority who took part would favour.
Cheers.
