Really love the patina on the watch, also I do like the 1950 case. Still trying to get pictures like those by our resident expert. :)

tritium was banned so now watches use Luminova unless it's encased in tubes.

Hobbit,
What's the diameter of this beauty if u dont mind?

Thats a nice PAM you got there!
I hate it when nowdays PAM put on those "fake patina" lume on their new models.

Chrisyen,
Actually it is interesting to note that the use of Tritium and luminova on Panerai watches is very much hit and miss. Tritium was banned between 1998 to 2000, country dependent. As such, you can see watches in the same series, I.e. A or B or even C having Tritium dial and hands or Luminova dial and hands. The watches (common believe) with the Tritium dial and hands were sent to countries that still have not banned Tritium, while the Luminova version was sent to these that have the ban.
What is interesting is the the watch I have is from 2006 and it has the Tritium dial and hands, 6 years on from the last country to ban Tritium. And Panerai has other models that use Tritium as well, like the PAM00199 from 2004.
Acurusaragon,
The watch is 44 mm. I have tried the Panerai with the 1950 case at 47mm and have found that it is too big and sits too high on the wrist. The 44 mm version is just fine for me.
Takashi78,
Thank you. Yes I agree with you on the use of faux patina on some of the current watches, but I am guilty of having one in the PAM00367.

N U dont get my point....
i'm saying why pam use tritium on on dial but super luminova on the hand....
so the old pam divers dial and hands old lumes hv different color....

chrisyen,
I believe Panerai uses Tritium hands with Tritium dial watches (I stand corrected on this) but the coating on the hands is pretty thin. Hence the Patina could be different. The colour of the hands on my watch is also different from the dial but I have checked that it is Tritium as it does not glow any brighter when exposed to the sun (most unscientific way to test). I have seen Panerai Divers (PAM00024 and PAM00025) with Tritium dials with Luminova hands, but those hands were changed during service as the Tritium coating breaks when the hands are removed during service.

there's a high chance that the hands are changed when serviced. tritium are known to "corrode" the hands.
or maybe mixing of parts due to availability and heck care.

Have seen this before. There is a PAM00025 pre-loved in one of the pre-loved watch shop in BVII that has the 'corroded' hands. Very interesting to see the level of corrosion.

Hobbit, Congrat for getting a new Pam. BTW, why is the meaning of Patina? is it the same escape valve like DSSD?

Yellowish effect on the hour marker due to aging by using tritium as luminous.
You can't get this effect if the material is super luminova based.

the tritium corrosion happens quite fast because they are not like Rolex which uses white gold surrounds on their hands and indices. so there were alot of pam owners who changed the hands under warranty and may have inadvertently changed it to Lume hands instead.
so a matching hands and dial is much rarer and worth much more.
there's also talk on how some watchmakers would apply a layer of "lacquer" on the hands to prevent the tritium from flaking off

I know that Panerai did apply lacquer on the dial but not too sure if it was applied on the hands.

Never see one, it is either automatic like DSSD or turn type like Seamaster, thought this one will be special ;D
