Its actually usd185k.
Never seen an actual owner of the watch in any forums though.

This topic has nothing to do with watch gallery so i am moving this to the OT section.

just read through the mechanism of this watch, using "Spring Drive" i think that is why it is so $$$$$$

copied and paste from wilkipedia :

The Spring Drive is a novel watch movement that was developed by Seiko Epson through collaboration with Seiko Instruments and Seiko Holdings.

It uses a mainspring, barrel, automatic winder and stem winding like in a mechanical watch to store the watch energy. The conventional escapement is replaced with a device that Seiko calls a Tri-synchro Regulator to regulate the unwinding of the mainspring. The regulator controls the use of the three forms of energy used in the Spring Drive mechanism; the mechanical power of the mainspring, the electrical energy generated from this mechanical power, and the electromagnetic energy that governs the rotation of the glide wheel. The energy produced by the glide wheel is used to power a control circuit and quartz crystal oscillator, which in turn regulates the electro-mechanical braking of the glide wheel.

The glide wheel's speed is sampled 8 times per second (i.e. each time it makes a complete revolution around the regulator) and compared with the reference quartz signal by the circuit. A variable braking force is continuously applied to regulate the glide wheel's frequency. This is the only movement with a time-only feedback (or phase-locked) loop in existence today.

The Tri-synchro Regulator's innovations result in a watch where the hands glide instead of ticking as in a conventional mechanical or quartz watch. This is because the movement never stops as in a traditional escapement, it is slowed to the proper speed by the brake. The movement is specified to 1 second accuracy per day. However, 1-2s per week is commonly reported by owners.

The movement is used on the Spring Drive International collection and in some watches of Grand Seiko, Credor, Galante, Izul, Ananta and Prospex series. Complications include moon phase, power reserve, chronograph, sonnerie, GMT and calendar functions. These watches are fairly expensive, with the least complicated models costing several thousand dollars.
The top of the line Credor Sonnerie in Rose Gold is over $150,000 and can be considered a grande complication.

A grail, well, in my case anyway, need not necessarily be mightily expensive. My next target, if I ever stumble upon one, is "just" a Seiko. ;)

Nice, 6105-811? 0 or 9? Anyway what is the difference?

The 6105 (earlier or later models) and the 4S15 (SCFF001) are on my list of to get Seikos.

Hobbit,

A 6105 came with a few variations - 8000, 8009 and 8110, 8119.

The first two's case were symmetrical cushion, whilst the last two were asymmetrical, which was the later version.

I would prefer either the 8110 or 8119, not only because of the larger cushion case, but also because of the B movement (as opposed to the earlier one, i.e. A).

Having said that, I'd have to say that in view of the rarity of this species now, I'm happy to have any one of the variations.

Sometimes ar, this grail talk is just "in the moment" oni...
This year frm January when I got my bonus and searching for a new watch... I actually stopped for 3 years prior...
Busy with kids and everything...
Then I surf around LYN ask for opinions... suggestions were aplenty, got my grail... a Zenith... found this forum, poison is deep in my veins... then impulse buy here and there... around 7 watches... flipped 5 and now looking to buy more...
Neverending journey... need... to... resist....... the...... temptation..... gyaaaahhh!!! :HammerHead:

I understand what you mean. When i first joined this forum, i too was poisoned so badly that i needed to get a watch every other week until i sober up a bit. I bought >10 watches in 2 months :HammerHead: Luckily they are the lower end ones..most of them have moved on to others as i attempt to recover back some of my expenditures.

I would not say that the Daytona is the holy grail of all Rolexes. The Daytona were unpopular when it was first introduced and this remain the case until 1986/ 1988. This changed with the introduction of the 'Paul Newman' Daytona and subsequently the Daytona with the Zenith movement.

Personally I would only consider Daytona with the 4 digit reference as 'holy grail' more so those without the screwdown chronograph pushers.

Daytona Reference 6240.

Mind asking, is Daytona the one to get in Rolex? ???

Zitan, I guess it all boils down to your preference. For someone like DC who has tasted the sweetness of all Rolex sports model, the Daytona might be the one to get. But for those who has not even smelled the bau of Rolex, even a Sub might be the most sought after for, or a GMT-Master, or a Sea Dweller, so on and so forth. The question is, which one is the one that you want? Unless you yourself know the answer, no one would be able to tell.

Thanks to mwf I am much informed on watches. But it is also the beginning of this expensive hobby. I am taught to stay with 7 and I have 6 now after 2 years of indulgence. Since the topic is 'next' holy grail, I think I shall go for the Daytona Rolex.

Of course top on my list are PP nautilus and Rolex Yatchmaster 2 (blue ceramic). I think the new yatchmaster 2 is the mother of all Rolexes. Well, like they say in Hollywood, dream on, dream on. Someday dreams do come true!

I find this interesting; there are such a diverse brands and models. This goes to prove that all brands have its own market. I guess that is why they can stay so long in the global market. If we open it to non mwf people, surely the catchment would be much wider too.

I am pleased to note this as competition will encourage creativity and innovation besides pricing as well.

I hope all the mwf will keep posting their holy grail and if it is substantial enough, I am sure the press and watch dealer will take note of this forum.

As for me, I am keeping my bullets for the black daytona. After that one more piece and I shall be very contented with my collection.
