Hi,
Can you share your experiences on buying online especially from japan?
How long does delivery usually takes?
Are there any additional fees? Like taxes and duties?
Thank you.

You need to pay for GST 6% if the total purchase amount (item + shipping fees) more than 500MYR.

Where will you pay the gst?

If you appoint pos Malaysia, thru them but if you collect yourself, thru customs directly. I prefer via customs as you can negotiate the final GST to be paid.

Logistics agent will handle this part, amount may vary but less hassle and time saving.
Of course u can handle this part for high value watches in order to minimize the amount.

Depends. If lucky customs just refer to declared value. However, some may do a quick check on the item and quote the MSRP price. For example Seiko JDM models - they may use the MSRP from Seiko's website as reference. Hence it is important that you bring with you the emails from the seller to prove to them that you got the item at a lower price

Oh i see. Thanks bro.
What about if purchase a pre owned and trying your luck to negotiate lower from declared value which had also included shipping and handling fees, etc on top of the watch price?
Secondly does anyone have any experience where they already paid the 8% tax on top of watch price if buy from Japan and when in customs here, will we be double taxed and on top of this 8% or can this be "taken out " from the final calculations ?
Thanks

If you buy from reputable Japanese internet merchants, your price should be net of the 8%

I asked the seller if they can declare the item lower than 100 usd and said is possible. Will i be able to dodge paying the the gst? Or will this cause problem with customs?

What the best websites that we can buy from japan?
-
GentWatches.com always keep an eye out for any high quality and cool men watches from Aliexpress.com
-
Why only Japan?
Do you have a particular model or brand you like?
-
you are aware that if you buy insurance it will be on your lower declared value which you are using to reduce your tax.
that means if the watch is lost in delivery, you can claim what you declared the value only and you may not have enough compensation to get your self a replacement watch.

Purchased from Japan with no issues previously. KLIA clearance normally depends on your luck, I have brought many pieces in with no issues; but have had checks done on some motorbike parts (another hobby) that was imported locally. Have an in-coming Seiko Turtle J1 piece, and was just informed that it would be delivered today. Can't wait to see this baby...

I guess tax depends on luck?
But usually will kena tax. My purchase kena tax but I print out receipt a bit lower so kena lesser.
-
the tax is 6% on your declared value unless you don't have an invoice then they will put the value for you for the item after they research.
Not all of my packages got tax. Only those which is screen for random inspection custom stop for inspection then 6% is required. I got big box of item which pass and small envelopes which got tax. So size does not matter.

I thought they will impose 6% on the declared value for anything above RM500?
When you mentioned "Not all of my packages got tax.", are these more than RM500?

Most of them above 1K.

I have a question:
If the watch is considered a gift. Hence no price tag, can GST still be imposed?

Then customs will go online and do a search on the said watch based on the model number and acquire the Malaysian MSRP and tax you GST based on the MSRP.

Bought online, sent thru EMS. Need to pay customs 6%. If posted through normal tracking might be able to avoid but EMS is more thorough and will surely have more valuable items.

Japan is one of the best.
My worst experience is with Italy. Totally disastrous

Hello, was quite intrigued to know more seeing all the replies here.
Usually what's your normal SOP when buying watch online?
What's your no.1 courier service, and do you always insure your parcel?
