Recently I had a chat with friend who has been collecting watch quite some time.
He mentioned that there are watch shops who occasionally give very very very good discount on the watches.
Apparently, his friend manage to get a IWC tourbillon with a 70% discount. (sounds unbelievable to me though... hahaha)
So, I was wondering for all the sifus here, is it really true that there are shops that sells watch (especially swiss made) at very huge discounted price?
Also, if there is, how would 1 knows there are such sale?
-
Usually advertised in the papers.. The current sales is by Valiram group (Swiss watch gallery) at marriot KL, some discount quite attractive.. U can find some IWC, omega , zenith , longines, Oris, tudor, Rolex , bvgari, etc some models 40%

Visited on the first day. Seriously lack of good models despite higher discount was given compared to normal days. End up empty handed.... haha... seems like a blessing for me as not going back with pocket kosong and maggi mee for the next 2 months...

Today supposed to be the last day. Event will be ended at 1 am.

Got some GP, Ulysse N and Bell and Ross but its only the slow moving and unpopular design.
I think I saw lots more oris and tag.
-
Been to the Valiram sales. Most nice pieces swept on the first day, left with this unpopular ones. Up to 50% discount for some models. There were few reputable ones eg Omega, IWC, Cartier Bell& Ross to name a few.

Wow 50% off...... :D
-
Yea. Nothing much there. But there is speedy with 35% dc if not mistaken. Other than that the usual BnR oris zenith (almost pulled trigger if not because the size is too big) and quite alot of Ball watches. Not bad if u want to spend a few quid there.
-
35% for Speedy is really good

to be honest, I hardly see a Rolex appreaing in sales :o
-
Thats because they never go on sale.
-
Rolex never does sales at all.
They don't need to. Sales or no sales, people still buy them.
-
Well I have seen Rxxxx on sales (unofficially) in some local AD , mainly those with bling bling. Gold, etc

If not mistaken, their quoted prices are cash price, if you choose to pay by credit card, a service charge will be imposed. Correct me if I'm wrong.

I agree. I don't even bother to walk into this shop. They look at you from top to bottom before giving any service. Asking for discounts and they look at you like beggar. They even make sarcastic comment and give no good advise whatsoever. Their staff only interested in money and don't know their watches. No time for this kinda arrogant people. I hope they will learn their lesson one day.

As mentioned by some of you, they are really driven by money. hahaha.
However, I would said MOST of them are arrogant. I visited the shop 3 times before I purchase my 1st watch there. Upon 3 visitation with 3 different sales person, the last 1 was indeed slightly friendly than the others. She was the one I bought my watch from and, since then, I deal directly with her only.
My second purchase was treated much better where she show me the watch and etc.
There are 2 things that I do not like about this shop:
1) The movement and mechanism watch is not thoroughly check and fix when the sell the watch. But they are professional enough to take back the watch and service. My first watch was a nightmare where the power reserve was very bad. I have to visit 3 times to get it rectify
2) The sales people do not really know the watch and the previous owner information. You need physical examine watch thoroughly. The Sales people are really there to just sell the watch by giving you a price. Getting more information of the watch is a waste of time.
Overall, I would still buy from there as they really sell preown watch at a really GOOD price (a very significant factor when I buy a watch).
P/S: As for the mr. Simon I have yet to meet him (apparently, he is the Boss and owner of the shop [I Think]). Spoken to him on the phone once though because he wanted to ask me what is the issue with the watch I purchase from his shop, he seem like a very busy man. He likes his conversation short.

To me, the purchase of my grail watch must be a very pleasant experience. Because I totally don't want my grail watch associated with any bad "energy" upon the time I buy them.
If the shop sales personnel really give me that long and black face or even robot face look...I definitely walk away.
The more I get older the more I am more particular about this. People may call me superstitious but I really don't want my happy watch comes from unhappy transaction. :D

Agree with this comment.
We are buying luxury goods, not run-of-the-mill commodity items. The whole experience must make sense

Tks bro for sharing your experience. I have heard some of the unpleasant stories from others and therefore still never pay a visit to the shop and buy any from them now although I have once called of their sales person to check price for a particular watch. Not feeling pleasant during the conversation and thus decided not to pay a visit.

Fully agreed. I look for pleasant experience in getting my watch, either it is expensive or cheap, and not solely on its price.

I like the GOOD price part, but I really don't like feeling shitty when buying a watch. Wing Wah seems to excel at making people feel inadequate.

I would value the purchase experience too. If the shop does not value one's purchase, it makes no sense to buy from them. Overtime one looks at the watch, one would remember the bad purchase experience. I would much rather looked at my watch and remembered the tea, good services, short skirted knowledgeable salespersons, nice conversations, etc.
So many complaints about this Wing Wah and they were still some whom go there, so I thought that the prices must be really good. A quick glimpse showed that only the Pams were discounted by quite a bit, the Rollies and such were rather market prices, no?

I wanted to get a watch as gift to a new acquaintance, and went to see if there was any good offers at a few watch shops that I have made repeated purchases in a shopping mall. Oris Divers Sixty-Five caught my fancy and I was pleasantly surprised when the shop straightaway went over the normal Oris discount (season buyers would know) to give me the nett price. A quick check online showed that it was even cheaper than some online shops that I used to buy from, and we have to further factor in an additional 10-15% for online purchases these days being GST, clearance, and shipping fees. The Manager told me that the locals were not buying these days due to the economy, and they were heavily sustaining on Mainland Chinese tourists' purchases. So they were now motivated to close sales for cash flow, especially with known repeated customers. This could be good news for us collectors.

Are you looking at the 40 mm or 42 mm version? I am more inclined for the latter but then again the original 65 is more like the former.

I was more partial towards the 42mm Sixty-Five. It had the impact that struck me when Tudor first release the Black Bay (flipped), only entry-cost for the Sixty-Five was much lower in comparison to BB.

You don't need to wait for exhibitions to get that paltry 10% - 20% (depending on brands, of course) discount. Most shops would accommodate a higher discount as long as they could still make a decent profit.
-
Normally, hot models are not available during sale period, rather the off season models, IMHO.

There is an Oris exhibition and sale at One U old wing. But was told discount is circa 28%-30%, so ain't that attractive as I could get higher at my regular ADs.

We are not supposed to talk of ADs' discounts here, but regular watch buyers would know that discounts for Oris could be gotten slightly north of what was given at that exhibition. You could PM me if you want the location of the said AD. Cheers.
