How about new timepiece instead of pre owned ? Any suggestion ? :)
-
I'd suggest a pre owned one. Buy brand new burn money unless u don't mind the few k differences. Anyway, I have sent you a PM.
-
If you insist on a new Rolex, I would strongly suggest to save another couple of thousands for either the GMT2, Milgauss, Sub or even the Explorer 2.
-
explorer definitely. better yet get the older version white polar.
-
Unless u wanna save up another few more K's to get a SubC or GMT well its all depends on your liking..

Top up another RM4.5k to your RM15K budget and you could get a new Datejust 2 or Datejust for slightly less.
-
preowned sub, nd sub, gmt etc.
-
15k air king lor
-
15k air king lor
The brilliant Air-King!
-
With that u can get a second hand Rolex Sub previous model
-
Pre-Owned Sub without date. I think you need to plus some Ks here to get pre-owned GMT, Sub with date and Explorer II.
-
15k air king lor
The brilliant Air-King!
+1 for 'fei-kei wong'
-
I would suggest a better watch from a better brand which is better value. Try omega, Seiko, Breitling in that price range.
Air King is not a nice watch.
-
At that price range buy used 14060 lor....

14060 is not nice either. Has folded endlinks. Feels cheap and nasty on the bracelet so need to wear on a strap. Not good on a 15k watch!
-
Budget for rolex brother TUDOR lor
-
36mm OP?
-
Rm15k u can get a pre owned submariner no date.
Or a brand new tudor Pelagos below 15k
-
If you look hard you might get a preowned 16610 sub.
-
A pre owned sub nd is simply classic.. I will grab one if I got rm15k in hand now.. Hehe ????
-
Don't forget about the explorer. Both 1 and 2 are nice pieces . At 15k you will be able to find a mint one.
-
With that amount of budget, i would go for pre-owned rolex explorer.
-
Pre owned date just, E2, sub etc.
-
I suggest explorer or explorer 2 and spend another 2k for service in rsc. Then, u have one like new.
-
I have the same dilemma so I bought a preowned Tudor Black Bay and skipped psychogically all other Rolex models while funding for the ultimate Daytona... :-\

Hope ur itch is scratched until u hv enuf funds to land a daytona. Haha

You can't get a New & Decent Rolex with RM 15,000 go for pre-owned if you really want that brand...
-
Go for the full set Rolex sub if you can find one in that price range. I think 14060 possible to get slightly over the RM15k mark.
Its a classic and one of the most versatile piece also value retention is very strong if your paying ~RM15k that's good value.
I would stay away from oyster perpetual, air kings and date just. Mainly reason is because of hard resale and you will likely take a hit.
Also I doubt you can get a new decent Rolex for RM15k~. If you wanna top up and buy new get the ceramic sub, I got a second hand subC, I can say that its so versatile, dress formal or casual with it no problem also don't even have to worry about banging it around, ceramic bezel always make the piece look new (eventhough the piece I have is dated 2011) and glidelock is awesome.
Overall RM15k for a 14060 a good buy - I don't think anything can beat this in this range if you factor in brand recognition and value retention.
-
Just a thought. Seeing that with RM15k now, one can't even find a new Rolex. How much do you think new Rolex watches will cost in 5 years time? Would be fun to see everybody's predictions and revisit this thread 5 years later. ;)
By the way, anybody has the full retail price list for 2015?
Oyster Perpetual - RM?
Lady Datejust - RM?
Datejust - RM?
Day Date - RM?
Datejust 2 - RM?
Day Date 2 - RM?
Milgauss - RM?
Explorer - RM?
Explorer 2 - RM?
GMT Master 2 - RM?
Submariner - RM?
Sea Dweller - RM?
Deepsea - RM?
Yachtmaster - RM?
Yachtmaster 2 - RM?
Daytona - RM?
Did I miss anything?

From the feedback of various members here, you should buy Rolex without papers, as long they come in rolex box. It is common to have no papers and it's cheaper

My observation is... It would be around RM3 to 4k cheaper from the latest discounted selling price. Depends. My 2c.

Given choice, i prefer ones with cert. at least it's chance for stolen goods is much smaller.
From trf, there is one guy sent his watch to rsc and the watch is reported stolen, the rsc sent the watch to police. It happened in the US or Europe i cant recall.
I bought my first rolex from a private seller at mudah. Without cert, but he bot from a preowned shop in times square. by my limited knowledge of rolex, i might not able to distinguish if i was given a high grade fake.
So, when i send to rsc for service i was actually quite worried. At the end, it's all end well.
If u ask me whether i will do that again? I will only do it again if the seller agree to meet at rsc for verification before i complete the deal.
Buyer bewares.

was looking around for my first rolex, main purpose as a dress watch.. so this thread gave me an idea.. thank TS..
but here i learn that datejust is not recommended.. i was eyeing the 116234 black dial with diamond, which is ideal for my dress watch requirement.. ??? apart from demand, why fellow forumers here not recommending datejust?
and by and large, the recommendation here is to look for a submariner instead.. looking around, i took a liking to 116613 ceramic.. but it might delay my acquisition to get that extra 10k.. second, the submariner is not as dressy & seems like a daily user.. am comfortable with my graham and b&r for daily use..
torn in between.. any thoughts?
apologies in advance to TS if deemed hijack thread..

To many, sub is almost a complete time piece. Nothing wrong for liking dj. Sub or dj or even op. Anyone that sing to u, just take. Hehe. A very formal dress watch to me, it's at watch with leather strap though.

yes keanewoon.. so thought the cellini with leather straps makes a nice dress watch too.. & i can't remember my last leather straps watch.. but for my first rolex, i thought with my limited budget, i should go for the most affordable must have rolex.. which i thought before was the datejust.. now i'm educated, thanks to wf forum..
anyways, by sub is almost a complete time piece, do you mean coz you can wear for all occasions, formal & non-formal occasions, outdoor, sport or even rough use? any other? better mechanism etc?
-
Some ppl wear sub in all occasions. I guess it's depends on what kind of occasion n person u r. Im nobody, i can wear sub to wedding dinner of my fren. If you are hanging with atas ppl, for instance, rosmah or jholow, i think sub is not appropriate. Maybe at least a leather strap vc. Haha.

And because of sub is appealing to all walks of life, so, it cant be wrong. To me. If u ask me what rolex to buy if u r not sure, well, it's sub or gmt. Haha.
Since u r sure u want a dress watch. Dj wont be wrong imho.

Different people have different definition of a dress watch. In the strictest sense, a dress watch shows time only without complications (chrono, power reserve, not even date) and comes with a leather strap. Think PP Calatrava or Lange Saxonia. These are typically for very formal occasions where the minimum dress code is a proper suit.
Rolex and dress watch (as defined above)...these two don't really gel unless you are going for the Cellini line. But nowadays as everything is 'casualized', it would not be out of place to wear a sport watch (eg Sub) with a suit. Personally I would go with something more subtle like the Explorer 1. The DJ is ok too though I think the Exp wins on versatility. There is also the new Oyster Perpetual that is pretty attractive and now comes in more 'wearable' sizes.
Ultimately it's up to you and what you look for in a dress watch.
-
Very solid opinion by deriku. Explorer is closer to a dress watch compared to sub. For me, i prefer the fluted bezel.

went to a few pre-owned shops and learned more there on the differences of DJ, Explorer, GMT & Submariner.. one most pleasant experience is when the sifu there told me i cannot take the fluted bezel on DJ coz its white gold.. didn't notice that.. so DJ is not an option unless i go for the stainless steel bezel.. between the others, Submariner will be the most suitable.. will start the hunt.. thanks guys..
-
What's wrong with the wg bezel? Why cannot take? It's the biggest selling point of the fluted bezel in my opinion.

Muslim are not allowed to wear gold ...... white gold, everose gold

Hmm, the hour markers of sub is rimmed with wg. Means cannot wear also?

And the hour 3,6,9 of explorer 39mm also wg.

I know Muslim can't wear gold but not sure whether Muslim can wear or not if the marker is gold. Anyway, hope some Muslim friend can clarify here so that I can gain new knowledge. :)

Is it WG or platinum? The markers on the Sub/GMT bezel are also plated with either of these materials.

hi there
i can say u can try ur luck in looking for a preowned millgaus in good condition

Milgaus is nice but may not be appealing to the masses..... I only like milgauss because of the rolex label.......

i've heard of that too but i noticed some malay uncles are wearing DJs with fluted bezel, not sure if vintage DJs are stainless steel? ;D
-
well, there's 2 PoV here.. the more liberal scholars say white gold loses its "gold" identity once mixed other forms of metal.. here in malaysia, the scholars take a more stringent opinion, that irregardless of the mix, it is still gold..
so, the hour markers are white gold for submariner, GMT and explorer? i that its full steel, no? huuuuuu.. so milgauss is full steel? saw a few options out there for RM22k but 2009 or 2011 models.. worth a try?
-
called up rolex.. & they confirmed now all models hands and hour markers are white gold based.. hmmmmmmmmmmm..
-
There's abundance of choices depending on your budget range.....buy iwc for example..... No need to worry about the gold hand or whatever.....
I rememver seeing a thread where you mentioned you took the plunge and bought the datejust already quite recently saprozeldo..... Now looking for the second rolex already?

What a rollercoaster.. Tough being a newbie.. So here's the question.. Would you go for a milgauss or datejust2? To me, both are nice albeit the milgaus thunder/lightning hand is an acquired taste.. I had mixed feedback as to future value.. Some say datejust2 retains better than milgauss and vice versa.. Some say if u wear d milgauss, it takes a second look to realise its a rolex.. Now kinda shaken my earlier position.. So whats ur pref & why, datejust2 or milgauss?
-
air King is the lowest range to rolex series
-

Thanks. I didnt realise this. Good to know and will do more homework on this. Not trying to be an ustaz, but considering that it is part of a watch, not decorative jewellery ( at least for me), i believe this is debatable even among Muslim scholars.
Sorry guys, just a sharing between muslim members.

GUYS - MWF for you to talk about watches. try not to bring religious matter into discussion! later some into arguement will be difficult !

Off topic, but it would be good to know what's Muslim view on gold in horology, as knowledge sharing.
Reason being, I saw many of our Malaysian leaders wearing their AP & PP in public, though not gold model, but part of the movements are definitely made of gold. Unless those are fake ;D ;D

its a very personal choice. One is a sport model with a scientific snd dressy characteristics, while we all know what datejusts or day dates are targeting.
Is it important people who took a look at your wrist must immediately recognise a Rolex? If yes, then the Milgauss is a poor choice and the DJ is probably the most 'rolexy' watch after the sub or GMT.
Value? its very subjective. How much are you paying for these watches? If you need to sell, are you patient willing to wait for the right selling price or you need a quick sale?
Personally, i will take the next few days to walk to as many AD and try and try and try and try. And buy only if you're sure you'll love and keep it for quite a while. All the best.

Thanks pexus.. i recently got me the green sub.. since that's rolexy enough.. your suggestion makes sense to go for a milgauss as my next target.. i really do dig the green sapphire effect on the blue diaal..

15k possible to get rolex 116264 turn o graph?
-
pre owned rolex explorer 2 16570,good value for money.white dial =p
-
Preowned or old school ;)
-
With current price increase, which is the most affordable men's rolex? Was quote 19k plus for OP. Anything cheaper?
-
Get the Rolex air king.
It should be within your budget.
-
Got an offer for the 14060 with cert but without box at 13k..is it a good deal?
-

13k for a sub is very good price. But the condition must b something you can accept. With cert doesnt mean it is not stolen good etc. better giv it a check at rsc before cod.
-
what about the oyster perpetual with new 3132 mvmt... nice handsome price but will it fit the 15k budget?
-

If the watch is authentic and condition is good, 13k with the cert is a steal.

pre owned rolex explorer 2 16570,good value for money.white dial =p
Agree on the white dial 16570. Look around long and hard enough and you should be able to find one full set that meet 15k budget.
-
explorer two, or an old sub.
-
I think en explorer 2 is a good choice if I were you.
-
15k can get air King ? Any one got suggestion and please pm .
-
If the OP is looking to spend RM15K on a used sports Rolex I would also advise to keep some extra for future servicing...

Old one yes. New 2016 model probably not, though pricing is not out yet
