Hey MWF,
I need to get a new watch for younger brother. My budget for it is around 1k - 1.5k.
What I'm looking for:
1) Automatic
2) For office use (so sports type is fine)
3) Prefer Swiss made (If possible with my budget)
4) Long term
5) Size of casing around 40mm
Don't plan to get Seiko cos he's already using one but its quartz.
Hope to get suggestions here as I do not have much knowledge on watches.
Thank you in advance!
-
Choice very limited with this budget on Swiss mechanical
The only brand ard this price range I can think of is steinhart
-
Nah, it doesn't need to be swiss made.
I just prefer it to be swiss made.
-
How about Magrette, Melbourne Watch Co. or Gruppo Gamma
-
Swatch Gents Irony Chrono Automatic Right Track Watch # SVGB400 - Automatic from Swiss RM1290 within your budget ;D

Something like Orient Bambino or Omega Speedmaster. Those kind of designs is fine.
-
choices are very minimum due to the budget. steinhart is a good choice, or maybe orient, orientstar?
-
Whats the difference between Orient and Orientstar?
Whats the pricing range for Hamilton watches?
I like the design of SEAVIEW DAY DATE AUTO by Hamilton.
-
orient star movement can hack and handwind.
usually with sapphire crystals and better case.
hamilton i doubt there are any below rm1.5k...
a good start though is the ever popular tissot visodate.
-
Get a preowned MWF project watch.
-
sorry but what do you mean by preowned project watch?

Gruppo Gamma watch by MWF for their anniversary. Currently for sale on merchandise section on the forum.
-
Oh it looks like Panerais.
-
Or how bout divers watch? Any recommendations?

Orient Mako. No second thought.
-
Orient vs Seiko vs Invicta diver.
Which do you think is better? since their price range is similar.
Seiko Shogun is it pricey?
-
Orient diver is nice but I'm looking for something with date only.
-
My suggestion is Tissot PRS 516 automatic. A bit higher than your budget but that watch is very nice. The one with leather strap is cheaper than on bracelet, good movement , nice lume plus it is Swiss Made :)

IMO, Orient and Invicta would be no match to Seiko.
Thought you didn't want to get a Seiko, thus didn't mention anything from Seiko.
The shogun a little pricey for your budget, but you can have a look at the 007, the Monster or the Baby Tuna. All are very well known divers by Seiko, and in your budget too.
-
Okay sorry that i mentioned i didnt want a seiko.
Now just seems like theres not much option.
So if i were to compare invicta and orient which will be better for divers series?

No doubt, definitely Orient.
-
Now stuck being indecisive. The invicta pro diver design is what im looking for. But orient is better than invicta
-
Anybody know the price for orient ray and invicta pro diver in malaysia?
-
Forget about Invicta!
:)
What about a Hamilton Field?
-
Trying to go for divers now that look like this:

Cos it looks good for multiple occassion.
But I just scared that the design that I show is no longer in production.

I like the ocean 1 but I have no idea where to get in Malaysia.
Singapore's outlet seems to be out of stock.
-
I'm looking for the design like ocean 1. Orient looks good but cant stand having day and date. prefer only date. Haha.

-
Ya it is. But I'm the one looking. So of course in the context I use "I".
And also I'm the one doing the searching. He don't know about this.

There is no AD for Steinhart in Malaysia. I believe most of the Steinhart owners in Malaysia buys it online, from the Steinhart webpage.
Note that the 19% VAT will not be charged in Malaysia, but an additional 30 EUROS will be charged for shipping.
It takes up to 3 weeks for the shipping to complete.
-
I see.
How bout airport tax and all? is there any of it?
And also is it better to pay through paypal or bank to bank transfer?

Nope, just 30 Euros and the watch will be shipped to your doorstep.
If I'm not mistaken the webpage only allows payment by PayPal.

I see. thank you very much for your info.

Search hard enough and there is an AD for Steinhart down in SG which I believe will cut short the delivery time much as compared to 3 weeks, for a slightly hire price... Just search for Steinhart in Singapore... but if you can wait, the just order directly from Germany...
-
They ran out of stock for the model that I'm searching.

Not to mention buying from Singapore ADs will be more expensive than from the webpage itself.

Oops... my bad... missed out the part where our bro saru has already checked with SG... guess Germany or other brands then...
-
Nah no worries.
Most likely ordering direct from their website.
So far anyone tried ordering straight from their website?
Any reviews? Like watch condition when it arrives.
-
And what if the bracelet is too loose how do you reduce the link to tighten the watch?
Cos theres no AD here in Malaysia.

Our bro Andy (andytagheuer) has an Ocean forty-four. You can ask him a little about it.

You don't have to go to the AD to adjust the bracelet, go to any watch dealers or service centers, they do it for you for free.

I have one more question, will Steinhart Ocean 1 be too big for my brother's wrist?
His wrist measurement is about 6.10" - 6.12".
Steinhart Ocean 1 size is 42mm without the crown. Is that too big on a 6.10" - 6.12"?

the lugs confirm will overhang wrist.
-
Will it look weird or ugly?
Or is it okay cos he'll be constantly meeting clients.
-
Sorry his wrist size is about 6.7" - 6.9".
Now I'm afraid that 42mm without crown is too big.
Will it be too big? Or looks weird on his hand?

6.7"-6.9" will look alright on a 42.
-
I see. But that measurement is without crown. If with crown what will the measurement make much difference?
Oh ya he has flat wrist too.
-
any skinny wrist will look flat la.
and for steinhart its not so much case size, but rather its 50mm very flat lug to lug length that will almost guarantee the lugs will either overhang or float above the wrist.
-
Ooohhh, okay okay.
Does the lug overhang happen for most diver watch?
-
Ooohhh, okay okay.
Does the lug overhang happen for most diver watch?
It doesn't happen because of the type of watch, but the size of the watch.
-
Okay understood. Thank you for thw explaintion.
Is it okay for small wrist to wear larger watches?

Should be fine. I wear much larger watches like G-Shocks too.
-
Oh, totally forgot about g shocks.
The size is similar to g shock? I know g shock is a lot thicker

G shock is much much bigger than 42. The one I have, DW6900 should be around 50mm, and it sits fine on my wrist (my wrist is around 7.3")
-
Oh i have that model myself.
Classic model. Ya, its big but is steinhart as big as that including its lug's length? Or smaller overall?
-
Bro, there's something called Google to check specs. If you want user experience, do ask but as for specs, I suggest you Google.
Thanks.

Not sure about this, I don't own a Steinhart.

It's alright, it's what a forum is for

Well i guess not everybody is as friendly and helpful as you in this forum.

Wrote you a lengthy reply vide PM, bro. Or you could surf my blog on the experiences of ordering online for the Ocean Forty-Four. Good luck with your journey!
