If you have an iPad, you can download the Panerai app. If not you can check out their website.

I would personally recommend you check out their contemporary (with date or chronograph complications) range of their catalogue. A few of them should fall under your budget.

Have fun!

After figure one which model you like the best way to confirm is to drop by some watch shop. Picture and watch on your wrist may tell different story.

Good luck.

Yes, you are definately right about this , was previously aiming for a 1950 case specifically the 312 , tried it on & doesn't look right on my wrist compared to the 1940 case & the Radiomir is alright tho but i wanted my 1st pam to hv a crown protector. Also 47mm definately doesnt go very well with my small wrist. :Blue:

So TS you'll definately need to go a the AD to try it out yourself.

check the difference between different casing style---Luminor, Radiomir or Sub..these are the 3 general ones to start off with...
then check out if you want painted or sandwich dial
then gotta ask if want base 2 hands model or you prefer some complications ....second subdial, GMT, date
...quite long story also.... ;D

All the best....

Let me make it easier (or harder) for you.. ;D

292 is a good choice, more so if you could find the older J series with SLC on dial.

All the best with the hunt. Can't go wrong with most of the models in the Historic range, but you have to enjoy winding your watch (on a daily basis). As for the 292, it is ceramic case and the crown is also ceramic. It is scratch resistant, not crack resistant, so do be careful if you get the watch.

Saw a post in a HK Penarai topic, an owner paying a premium to replace the crack crown, he was mentioned the crown was crack by itself without sign of knocking. Really think twice for ceramic stuff.

I guess owner don't admit he bang it
Or mayb he didn't notice

Ceramic is hard...
Yes is breakable.... Can b scratched by harder material as well... Diamond... N dog teeth ( my Fren experienced this with his top gun)

But if a force that can break the ceramic case, I believe if it is steel also... It will be dented badly!
Dent is non repairable as well

Nothing perfect... Looking after our love on wrist also show u r really appreciating watches

Actually steel cases not too bad if dented or badly scratched. There are techniques to restore the case. You can use laser weld and lapping grinder machine.

The PVD and Ceramic black watches may be nice looking and all that but they are nowhere near maintainable as traditional chrome/brushed steel watches. For these, Cape Cod cloth and fine nail polish board is all you need for minor touch ups, something not so easy for the black watches. A factor to consider if the watch you plan to get is a "wearer".

When I was looking for my first Panerai - I have decided to go for the classic DNA of Panerai with crown guard and simple dial. Maybe PAM111 or PAM112 for sandwich dial or PAM390 for sausage dial. And, a little complication for the second Panerai.

My First.

Well, if you could stretch your budget a little you should be able to get an absolute modern classic in the PAM 372 (biased as i just got mine), on the secondary market. Trust me, you wouldn't regret it! Some visual encouragement, LOVE IT! Definitely the base model to go for.

ps. even a pre owned one that cost more than 20k new,but now going for around 20k is also considered.

First get yourself thoroughly confused with ALL the models on offer then work through the labyrinth of designs before deciding. I presume once you get bitten by the bug you will be going for a second Pam then a third....... and until your gf/ wife screams at you....you wake up to reality and realize perhaps the obsession is not worth it after all ! Or perhaps you are forced to make hard choices, search your soul as you are constantly between a rock and a hard place.
