Microfibre Cloths - Yes or No?
« on: December 06, 2012, 08:34:19 AM »
Hi there all,

I was wondering, are the Microfibre cloths good for stainless steel watches?

I recently got a cheap Microfibre cloth from Daiso... And well, it does cleans out all the fingerprints, dust and oil, etc...
however, I realised it causes SCRATCHES!!!  :Scolding:

Therefore, wondering are all microfibre cloths like that? Or only cheap ones?

And what do you use to get rid of the fingerprints, dust and oil, etc... (not polishing, just cleaning)...

Try google 'Horosafe nanofibre'.... in theory, 'nano' is much more finer than 'micro'...

or, your daiso microfibre cloth got some debris on it..

No, there is something wrong here. A good microfibre cloth will never be able to scratch your watch. Not unless you are using a polishing cloth like cape cod. In fact, photographers use microfibre cloth on their cameras which are a lot more delicate than watches.

Throw away the one you are using now.
It probably picked up hard debris in it. Buy a good quality microfibre cloth from a Camera shop.

Yea, I guess maybe it caught some debris in the cloth... Maybe should get from a better place, or at least wash it first before using it.. lol..
But, going back to what u said, using cape cod can scratch the watch?

I'm using the free cloths come together with my OrientStar, so far so good.

I would suggest you buy the microfiber clothes that people use to clean camera lenses. You can purchase them from Camera specialty shops. I feel that if the cloth is good enough for a good camera lens, which is extremly expensive and far far more sensitive than our watches, its good enough for our watch.

Polishing clothes are another story and can be purchased from ebay but normally need some experience or know how to use. Generally cleaning of dust, fingerprints, smudges, oil, sweat i feel microfiber clothes is good enough

Look up Veraet and get their kit. Your watch deserves the best.
