T he point of  argument is simple as Abc. Most people will construe that after paying so much for a piece of high end watch, anything that comes with the watch should be of equal quality, and weather they want to keep or throw away the box is up to them. Nobody throw away a rol box anyway, you need to pay over rm. 200.00 for a used one.

Yes, that's true.
So, an used Rollie box (which is peeled) will aslso cost as much, I suspect.

really going OT...

1. property market in Malaysia is grossly over-speculated especially in the Klang Valley.

2. cars in Malaysia cost much more than EU because of "taxes"

now, back to watches.

Rolex does not need to spend more money to make nice, expensive boxes because their watches will sell even if it came in a plastic case. Oh wait a minute, it DOES come shipped in a plastic case...

Now if I were a manufacturer and I know my products will sell even if the packaging was cheap and I saved money on it, why wouldn't I do that? In the end, it's the bottom line that counts, not the rants of a very, very small percentage of buyers.

For you to construe that "most people, after paying so much (note 1) for a high-end watch (note 2), anything that comes with the watch should be of equal quality" is quite far from the truth. I believe many buyers aren't interested in the boxes at all.

- Note 1 - Cost is relative. You may consider RM20k+ as expensive. Some might not.
- Note 2 - Rolex is high-end only to some people. Others think of AP, PP, VC, ALS, RM etc as high end and Rolex as a mid-range.

Now, while I can understand you may be quite unhappy with the quality of recent Rolex boxes (which I do find to be cheaply made as well), know that Rolex will do nothing about it as long as their watches sell they way they do.

And I for one will not spend money to buy a Rolex box, damaged or pristine.

I don't know bout you...but I have the same view in buying used watches as used cars.

Service papers are more important than BnP. I wear the watches and not the boxes. Rather use the money saved on some bling for the wife.

But for some perfectionist or collectors...

A "complete" set is quite important.  That includes a NICE and GOOD box.

For most Panerai collectors, complete and good condition boxes is a must. Absence of boxes like the outer shipping cardboard box can sometimes affect the ability to deal in the secondary market...

I would gladly pay a few hundred more for a  mint cond.watch which comes with everything complete like you buy new  from an AD,  if my budget permit I would  opt for a new one.   tony....

For the kind of money that we pay, i must say that rolex box is really cheapskate.  :mooning:

I mean placing it next to other watches which are of comparable monetary value such as panerai, iwc etc... you will appreciate that rolex is really trying to rip us off.

maybe you would be happier if Rolex provided genuine leather lined boxes made of mahogany and raised prices by a few hundred RM??

for me, boxes are good if you were buying a gift. for my own use, i wouldn't need a box and prefer a good discount.

But we all know the reality is that Rollie wont give you a 'good discount" despite if a cheapskate box. for watches above 20k, surely is not too demanding to expect a slightly decent box if you buy it brand new from rollie? No???

I know Tony. That's why I always maintain Msia ADs are big time rip off  :Scolding:

Dont buy from them. Get it from overseas. Try HK or Japan (non AD have plenty of them and cheaper than msia premium price for sure). Anyway, daytona is kind of losing its appeal in place like HKG cos they are just everywhere. Also, one collector told me that its not that hard to source it at list price these day. I checked with one AD sometime ago and casual chatting. the sale just told me that they are selling at list price now. But of course one has to wait. (BTW, I dont have any lubang to source that immediately, so guys please dont pm me for lubang.) :Laughing_on_floor:

Hi kaka, not all boxes peeled after 3 yrs., but some even rot from the inside. If you mean the multiple watch box for storage , i don't think that will peel. If you have a choice get something made of wood rather than pu. correct if i'm wrong ,,just my opinion. fr. tony.

Thanks for your opinion.. Pu is easier to find, wood is bit hard. I only saw wood type at red army. But only can keep 6 watches.

You know where can find wood type?
