Hi! A newbie And Need Help
« on: May 04, 2012, 08:26:21 AM »
Hello there  ;D. A newbie here with few Mechanical collection in hand. Hope can share and learn more from this forum.

Am also sort of like need help and don't know which section to post.

I have an Omega Speedmaster Mark IV, that is recently sent to service due to the following:-
1. Problem with the Chrono, which sometimes stop after awhile when use where you have to shake the watch and it will continue timing the crono again (Was told there's a drop in the bpm when the chrono was used by the Service Centre)
2. Changing the bezel (due to dent/mark) with an after market bezel found in ebay (similar but there are slight notable difference).
3. Polishing.

The watch are sent to TSC Amcorp Mall. The issue at hand is the cost for doing all this. Was quoted RM1900 for the 3 things above. Damn I could get myself a Tag F1 for that price.

What do you all think. Is it fair/alrite or should I go to Omega service centre and get it done there. Will it be cheaper?

Thanks you all

Why don't you source the quote from Swatch (Omega Service Center) for comparison?
If the difference is not much, I'll get in done in the center.

Agree with ck77. The cost you quoted, does it include the cost of the aftermarket bezel insert? At the end of the day, it is really up to you and what value you place on the watch.

Yeah, the best case is always to go to the authorize service center. Peace of mind even if it may cost slightly higher. By the way, I just got back from Amcorp to get my watch polish for slight dent at TSC but they quoted to much. Send it to other shop instead.

i would strongly recomend you send to omega service center before you make any decision to send your watch for repair outside.the main reason is all the branded watch parts are not easy sources except that he is te sole agent,You can ask the omega center to quote you a price first before you send to the watch shop to repair.

the chrono stop might due to several posibility,

* colum chrono wheel out of align ( can be adjusted)

*parts broken

*movement need service

My recently sold Planet Ocean Chronograph Co-Axial was sent in to Swatch KL for service after abt 4yrs. The watch was still running normally but off COSC and the PR was less than 30 hours.
Swatch took 3 months but the watch came back in tip top condition n polished.Checked the dial with a loupe…no fingerprints anywhere, no dust.
They gave me back all those parts they changed..including all new hands - 3 hands in the chrono counters plus hour, minute & chrono second hand, new pushers and crown, gaskets, some gears… all in all RM 1,650.00...
The watch ran beautifully …was only +1 sec/day after that for a long time..
To me it was a good job and worth the money and the long wait..by the way it was serviced by a very sweet young girl with a pony tail coz I spoke to her..no more than late 20's.. shld have asked for her number...

Personal taste and preferences evolve over years, hopefully not 1 full circle otherwise it means we haven't learnt a single thing.
