Info Request : GP Calibre 59
« on: February 22, 2011, 02:44:21 AM »
Hi bros,

tried on a Pam 98 today and fell in love with it. Don't know if it's the right word to use to describe it but it looks "cute"  even the girl at the other end of the counter laughs when i said that.

42mm and does not look like the conventional Pam. love all the function it comes with. did some search online and over in p.com and read that some ppl posted about the fragility of the movement. anyone here have any infos/knowledge about the movement?

would love to get one for work as it fits all the criteria of a GMT, alarm and also fits underneath the shirt cuff. As a manual labourer, i need something that can take the beating.

thanks in advance

cheers

Yeah, one of the few models that was housed unmodified. Thus it does not have the OP prefix unlike the newer 355 which is he same calibre but was slightly "touched"

Is the alarm loud? and does the hour hand move by the hour hand back and forth?

think it works quite like my 2893 in setting the GMT time.

does not have an hour hand but have a cut out window to display the GMT time.

the second crown is to wind the alarm.

the sound is more like a loud buzz in those vintage winding travel clocks.

As to my understanding GP has bought the right to manufacture the AS (Anton Schild) 5008 which is derived from a vintage alarm movement and with able to have modification like gmt, worldtime. Then GP can claim is own manufacture movement and also sell it to others brands.  The brands that used this movement like B&M, ML, Oris and others.

There are basically 4 famous alarm manufacturer like JLC, AS by GP, Vulcain and Lemania (Breguet)

Just go to google and search AS 5008 for more details.
