Seiko SKX009 better or Citizen NY2300?

i believe both are equally good but personally i would prefer Seiko

There is no better. Just which one you prefer more. In this case, I would vote for the Seiko.

You are looking at 2 entry-level but very value-for-monies and dependable watches. As per the attached Googled picture (Pepsi), both the SKX009 and NY2300-09G have good wrist presence, although the underdog NY2300 might have more details though. Why not consider the NY0040 too? The full lume model especially, should be a dazzle at nights after a full day of outdoor activities. That is the piece that I may be adding next. The blue sunburst dial model looked more expensive than the price it dictated. Either way, you can't go wrong with any of these 3 models. The easiest way out of your dilemma is then... to simply add all 3 watches to your collection

just note the citizen full lume model ironically becomes harder to read in almost total darkness.
this is cos there is very little contrast between the full lume hands and dial, so a normal mod that is done is usually just to blacken the hands.

anyway, in terms of movement...the citizen has the upper hand cos it can be hand winded.
but the seiko obviously is better if u like to mod stuff and change its appearance.

Keeping tab on this topic. Would love to know if citizen is better than 7s seiko movement too. I mean in terms of accuracy (not that im that particular), etc.

Both are good in their own right.

With some adjustments, both can be brought to better accuracy

Both of them are equally good. I wear them for daily hot shower without any problems at all after few years of owning them.

Lug size is 22mm.
I wear my SKX009 with a few nylon nato straps in rotation. It's a very versatile watch.
I've ordered a SKX007 with view to mod by changing bezel insert and hand.

Go for Seiko. Try to find those written Made In Japan over Made In Malaysia. That's pretty rare tho.

SKX 009 you can find many parts  for modding,  image below both are SKX 009 but one of it is modded

Both are are equally good.

but when we factor in the after sales support in Msia (if that is part of your concern too), then i would say go for Seiko. Apart from Thong Sia, plenty of places are capable to service and obtain parts easily.

with Citizen, you will vomit blood. Calls went unanswered, Facebook and emails un-replied. i even went to their office in Subang Jaya, during office hours on a workday, guess what? they're bloody closed and nobody answers the door. 

This, coming from owner of 3 citizen watches. do you think will i consider another citizen again even if it is an extremely good watch? big fat NO.

After seeing the pictures of the lumed dial of Citizen Promaster NY0040-09W above, I started to look for one but it was sold out in a few places that I looked. I think it may be a discontinued model.
When it popped up for sale on the bay I quickly snared one and less than 2 weeks later it's finally here

The dial is yellow with a tinge of green




The lume charges quickly and is bright but doesn't last very long.



For me the biggest nuisance is getting used to the 8 o'clock crown as I am right-handed but overall can't complain much coz it's decent watch for it's price.

Yes, NY0040 lume is very bright but it is not so lasting
