GST on imported watch
« on: December 08, 2015, 08:16:18 PM »
need advice. i recently sent my watch to Switzerland for a warranty claim and the watch will be sent back to me sometime soon.
question, will there be GST upon collection of the watch in Malaysia?

Should not be if you prove you purchased the watch here and paid GST prior or before GST implemented.

i sent the watch via DHL who gave me a receipt showing that watch was sent for warranty claim purpose.
the watch company however will not be using DHL to send back to me.
i heard there may be GST imposed on the courier fee... but im not sure how true is that

You will need to pay GST on the courier fee n not the watch as its warranty claim and doesn't involve money for repairs

Any goods sent out overseas for repair should qualify for gst relief when it comes back in.

sshark/umesh : apparently not so simple. courier fee is arranged and paid by the watch company and we might still get GST-ed on the courier fee (yes it doesnt make any sense but Malaysia really boleh)

zj/femann : by right so. but a friend recently received a parcel sample (printing ink) from his counterpart office and was GST-ed both the courier fee + cargo value eventhough he did not pay for the courier fee

shake head....

Hi Mikey, what did the sellers declare on the description of the packages? I had been lucky with 2 Tuna gifts from an overseas friend (declared as presents) and a couple of straps (declared as watch straps with the actual value, but no GST imposed); but had been thinking twice about getting another Tuna from an overseas shop. Would like to sample your case. Cheers.

Precision instrument is the default.
(Can asked to write used if via private sale)

They will call to confirm what it is..thats when u confirm its a used item. Can provide a link or something then via email if possible.

A lowered declared value + above description will get u out of strife most of the time

Just ordered a Swiss piece and the moment I chose the country under MY, the 6% tax appeared under the invoice. Tried another country to deliver to and the tax got taken off, but then I need to trouble a friend to send over to me so it would be more work. Ended up paying another few hundred for the GST.

Hi,

i also "kena" a notice by Jabatan Kastam. Not sure how much i need to pay as i recall watch is exempted from import duty. Hopefully just the stinking 6% gst. I was using EMS and the shipment is from Japan.  :Blue: :mooning:

I just dont understand why they even charged for oversea online sale. This is so stupid. I dont think other European country did this too. But as me living in Moscow, their gst 16% but none charged to online shopping (non-russian state)
