Worth buying 18k Gold Watch?

Hi,

With the current price of gold (not too high), what's your thought of buying a 18k gold watch now?
Do you think the price of the watch will fluctuate according to the gold price in the future?

I'm tempted to get a pre-owned Rolex Datejust 16238.

I would agree on both members said. Lets say, in a budget of RM 100k, you could get above 500g of gold bar. That is a way better investment but if you like to own an 18k gold watch wouldn't be a problem but thats not one of the way on investing gold IMO

I went to an AD recently and they have the everose gold daytona.  My goodness, the price of that thing you can buy a house or a corolla altis or a small size SUV.  The Platinum Daytona you can buy a Merc C Cass or BMW 3 Series.

IMHO, full gold watch is rather impractical if for everyday wear. It will quickly wear out as its rather soft and will quickly collect dings, dents and scratches. Furthermore, an impact will cause deformation easily, saw that happen to a full gold Rolex before.

In my preference, a stainless steel model is better, if you want gold color, maybe a two tone model will be preferable.

If u are looking for investment, i dont think gold watch is a good idea. But if u are more into luxury  then go for it. The most important thing is u like what u buy.

Rolex solid gold is sexy. But I won't get the datejust if I go gold I'd go with a GMT master II or even a Sub. it is just so boss looking on the wrist.

I have a mid size 35mm case 18k solid gold tissot. It kinda goes well with batik... decent, simple and not too bulky under the sleeve.

Watches are bad investments in general. If you want to make money, invest it in FDs, stocks with stable dividends, or maybe even open up a business. Predicting the investment outcome of a watch is damn difficult, as it is marred by demand and supply, fashion trends etc.

Having said that, if you want to be safe, a Rolex or Patek are the safest. Though, imagine all the people who bought those small dial Pateks back a few decades. They are unable to sell em today. Avoid too big (44mm) or too small (34mm) watches. Typically 37mm to 40mm and you are safe. Cause you may never know where the next trend is heading to
