Go for the full set Rolex sub if you can find one in that price range. I think 14060 possible to get slightly over the RM15k mark.

Its a classic and one of the most versatile piece also value retention is very strong if your paying ~RM15k that's good value.

I would stay away from oyster perpetual, air kings and date just. Mainly reason is because of hard resale and you will likely take a hit.

Also I doubt you can get a new decent Rolex for RM15k~. If you wanna top up and buy new get the ceramic sub, I got a second hand subC, I can say that its so versatile, dress formal or casual with it no problem also don't even have to worry about banging it around, ceramic bezel always make the piece look new (eventhough the piece I have is dated 2011) and glidelock is awesome.

Overall RM15k for a 14060 a good buy - I don't think anything can beat this in this range if you factor in brand recognition and value retention.

Just a thought. Seeing that with RM15k now, one can't even find a new Rolex. How much do you think new Rolex watches will cost in 5 years time? Would be fun to see everybody's predictions and revisit this thread 5 years later. ;)

By the way, anybody has the full retail price list for 2015?

Oyster Perpetual - RM?
Lady Datejust - RM?
Datejust - RM?
Day Date - RM?
Datejust 2 - RM?
Day Date 2 - RM?
Milgauss - RM?
Explorer - RM?
Explorer 2 - RM?
GMT Master 2 - RM?
Submariner - RM?
Sea Dweller - RM?
Deepsea - RM?
Yachtmaster - RM?
Yachtmaster 2 - RM?
Daytona - RM?

Did I miss anything?

From the feedback of various members here, you should buy Rolex without papers, as long they come in rolex box. It is common to have no papers and it's cheaper

My observation is... It would be around RM3 to 4k cheaper from the latest discounted selling price. Depends. My 2c.

Given choice, i prefer ones with cert. at least it's chance for stolen goods is much smaller.

From trf, there is one guy sent his watch to rsc and the watch is reported stolen, the rsc sent the watch to police. It happened in the US or Europe i cant recall.

I bought my first rolex from a private seller at mudah. Without cert, but he bot from a preowned shop in times square. by my limited knowledge of rolex, i might not able to distinguish if i was given a high grade fake.

So, when i send to rsc for service i was actually quite worried. At the end, it's all end well.

If u ask me whether i will do that again? I will only do it again if the seller agree to meet at rsc for verification before i complete the deal.

Buyer bewares.

was looking around for my first rolex, main purpose as a dress watch.. so this thread gave me an idea.. thank TS..

but here i learn that datejust is not recommended.. i was eyeing the 116234 black dial with diamond, which is ideal for my dress watch requirement..  ???  apart from demand, why fellow forumers here not recommending datejust?

and by and large, the recommendation here is to look for a submariner instead.. looking around, i took a liking to 116613 ceramic.. but it might delay my acquisition to get that extra 10k.. second, the submariner is not as dressy & seems like a daily user.. am comfortable with my graham and b&r for daily use..

torn in between.. any thoughts?

apologies in advance to TS if deemed hijack thread..

To many, sub is almost a complete time piece. Nothing wrong for liking dj. Sub or dj or even op. Anyone that sing to u, just take. Hehe. A very formal dress watch to me, it's at watch with leather strap though.

yes keanewoon.. so thought the cellini with leather straps makes a nice dress watch too.. & i can't remember my last leather straps watch.. but for my first rolex, i thought with my limited budget, i should go for the most affordable must have rolex.. which i thought before was the datejust.. now i'm educated, thanks to wf forum..

anyways, by sub is almost a complete time piece, do you mean coz you can wear for all occasions, formal & non-formal occasions, outdoor, sport or even rough use? any other? better mechanism etc?

Some ppl wear sub in all occasions. I guess it's depends on what kind of occasion n person u r. Im nobody, i can wear sub to wedding dinner of my fren. If you are hanging with atas ppl, for instance, rosmah or jholow, i think sub is not appropriate. Maybe at least a leather strap vc. Haha.

And because of sub is appealing to all walks of life, so, it cant be wrong. To me. If u ask me what rolex to buy if u r not sure, well, it's sub or gmt. Haha.

Since u r sure u want a dress watch. Dj wont be wrong imho.

Different people have different definition of a dress watch. In the strictest sense, a dress watch shows time only without complications (chrono, power reserve, not even date) and comes with a leather strap. Think PP Calatrava or Lange Saxonia. These are typically for very formal occasions where the minimum dress code is a proper suit.

Rolex and dress watch (as defined above)...these two don't really gel unless you are going for the Cellini line. But nowadays as everything is 'casualized', it would not be out of place to wear a sport watch (eg Sub) with a suit. Personally I would go with something more subtle like the Explorer 1. The DJ is ok too though I think the Exp wins on versatility. There is also the new Oyster Perpetual that is pretty attractive and now comes in more 'wearable' sizes.

Ultimately it's up to you and what you look for in a dress watch.

Very solid opinion by deriku. Explorer is closer to a dress watch compared to sub. For me, i prefer the fluted bezel.

went to a few pre-owned shops and learned more there on the differences of DJ, Explorer, GMT & Submariner.. one most pleasant experience is when the sifu there told me i cannot take the fluted bezel on DJ coz its white gold.. didn't notice that.. so DJ is not an option unless i go for the stainless steel bezel.. between the others, Submariner will be the most suitable.. will start the hunt.. thanks guys..

What's wrong with the wg bezel? Why cannot take? It's the biggest selling point of the fluted bezel in my opinion.

I know Muslim can't wear gold but not sure whether Muslim can wear or not if the marker is gold. Anyway, hope some Muslim friend can clarify here so that I can gain new knowledge. :)

Is it WG or platinum? The markers on the Sub/GMT bezel are also plated with either of these materials.
