Rumours of impending Rolex and Tudor price increase
« on: August 30, 2014, 12:16:10 PM »
Hi Guys,
Some of you may have been aware that Rolex prices in some of our neighbouring countries such as Singapore and Hong Kong have already increased this year.

Rumour has it that come 1st September, Rolex will be hiking prices in Malaysia so if you have been planning to get yourself one, better do it this weekend. Same applies for Tudor.

Danny, thanks for the heads up. My contacts in several ADs have also warned of an impending price increase. Sigh...

Luxury brands will always increase prices. Its not that cost of manufacturing goes up, but its to make sure that the brand remains in the luxury bracket.

People's income tend to increase (with annual salary increments and so on), so luxury brands will also have to adjust their prices to upkeep its status as a luxury brand.

Its the same with designer goods.. just look at how much your wife's or gf's luxury bag has changed in price over the years..

I remember they just did a price revision after CNY, by reducing half of the standard discount.

Now they increase price again. What a good investment.

Even old models will definitely follow suit as a result of the price increase.

So obviously Rolex is the choice.

But based on the current strong RM against Euro their imported cost should have been lower.

But again after the clearance of old stock the current cheaper stock as a result of the strengthening RM they may give a bigger discount.

Well that's my price analysis opinion.

You got it spot-on, Yoda. I seemed to have been bitten by the Tudor bug and yesterday, went to take a look at their Heritage series (again) and my newfound-interest in the Pelagos, and the pricing have been adjusted upwards. However, they were also giving discounts to part-mitigate the price increase, although they were quite firm on the BB burgundy red being their best-selling model. Supposedly, the Reds were being sold within a week of display so only new stocks, so minimal reduction applicable.

When Rolex increase prices for new watches, used ones rarely increase. But now with the random serial numbers, we might see a very slight increase if any. The pre-owned market seems to base price on year of purchase.
