This is going to sound silly...
« on: February 18, 2014, 08:13:18 PM »
...but where do you folks change the battery in your G-Shocks? Most places I've been to don't provide a battery change service; not even at the G-Factory stands littered around in select malls. Most places point me back towards the SC (somewhere in Jalan Ipoh?), but I can't quite find the time to swing by.

The few places that are willing to open them up; most will not tell you about not being able to screw the caseback on properly. I had mine changed in my first G-Shock I ever bought (with my first paycheque) and had a mild heart attack when I saw condensation in the screen during a shower. The watch then proceeded to go blank for a few days, until the screen cleared up. Looks like it has reset, and I think I have no choice now but to bring it back.

Not an expensive piece, but it sure has sentimental value for me, so I don't want to bin it! And if any of you can point me in the right direction... I would well appreciate it.

Pics don't show the condensation as it has dried up over the CNY heatwave, but the date and time has gone awry and I haven't set it back yet. Don't think I want to wear it just yet; really just need to find the time to bring it back to SC to get it checked out. But some day, I'm going to have to find a place to get a battery change done, and I need some alternatives!

I am not sure about it too because if i remember correctly models like your Mudman or solar powered casio watch, if u send to g factory or any casio authorized dealer they will send the watch back to Marco group Malaysia. I had a tough solar g shock which the rechargeable battery can only last for 2 hours after 8 hours under the sun, send to a shop and the guy said he doesn't have the kind of battery and i have to send back to Marco, now it is just sitting in the drawer

Maybe you can try the info below, email them or give them a call for inquiries, hope that helps  ;)

My G Shock having problem (after 1 year, just past warranty period) and the Shop G-Fxxxkry giving all sort of excuse stating it needs X months to fix and need to send to Y place and charge Z amount. After i send my watch to fix by the uncle opposite my house and confirmed dead by him because of "electrical issue". Then now i keep the watch in my drawer. and i vouch, i will never buy a G-Shock again, especially at G-Fxxxkry   :Blue:

The thing is anyone can change the battery but it needs to be reset after a battery change. Some of the shops dont do it and the watch starts going funny...

As for the condensation, the most probable scenario I can think of is that the person:

  • Did not reinstall the gasket properly in the groove before closing
  • Did not re grease the gasket before installing
  • Did not tighten the screws in the proper sequence hence causing uneven gasket compression
  • the shop was humid

As for the solar types, the batteries are actually available for sale, but has to be ordered. No shop will keep them in stock.
