Guys...I just walked into a random Omega boutique in Causeway Bay yesterday and they had the dark side of the moon. The only one in that shop. Retailing at about HKD 93,000...the manager was an ex colleague of mine and I was able to have that watch on my wrist. I didn't want to take a wrist shot as there were at least 4 salesgirls there to assist me. Whew...talk about good service. Anyways...a quick and humble thought on my take of that watch. Wonderfully light. Very advanced in technology. But somehow didn't really sing to me. The dial was not really that impressive and the strap was somewhat of a disappointment due to the rubber holes for the pin. Different strokes for different folks I guess. Not my cuppa. For that price range, I would go JLC MUT moon or save a bit more for an AP diver or 15400.

I tried it too and my worry is the cost to replace/polish it if there's a dent or crack...

Wouldn't worry much about polishing it as ceramics are close to being scratch proof. Our only worry is to try to not drop it, as it will crack. I have a colleague who has an IWC ceramic big Pilot and he says the same thing. He is worried that he will drop the watch. Otherwise all should be good.

In any event, having the watch on my wrist does not impress me much. It was kind of a let-down really...all that hype and then you find that the speedy pro is still unbeatable...LOL

hi James,
I currently have a IWC Top Gun ceramic chrono.
As long as you don't drop or smash the watch hard against a solid surface, you'll be ok.
Ceramic case also gets lines similar to scratches on SS cases under similar situations but you just use an eraser to rub the lines off. Of course the DSOM being polished ceramic may be different unlike the matt ceramic of the Top Gun.

By the way where did you manage to try it? in Singapore ? Care to share which AD or was it the Omega boutique (address?). May make a trip to check it out. Is there any disc on this model ?

hi Patrick,
Appreciate your sharing the info.
Looks like price in HK is slightly lower than bolehland  (after conversion abt RM 39K RRP)
Since I've yet to see it in the metal.. or rather ceramic, I can't comment but from pics it looks real nice. I'm still lusting for ceramic and forged carbon watches with good movements but AP ROO ceramic and IWC forged carbons are priced too high for my appetite.

Agree with you that if the net price hovers at abt RM 40K, its no longer an attractive option even if I really like it in the metal. A regular 9300 Speedy costs under RM 20K so the ceramic case/buttons costs RM 20K?, close to half the total? hmmmm

Was told that due to its hot reception there is no discount offered on this model. Is it the same in HK?
As to Speedy Pro being unbeatable , I sold my Speedy Moonphase  cal 1866 as the timekeeping sucked even after regulation.

Jason,
Taste is very personal and I'm not trying to be a wet blanket but don't you find the date on the Octo too small and out of proportion to the dial?

As for the Cartier, I just can't link Cartier to dive watches...and having a carbochon on a dive watch crown just feels out of place...
BTW this model is similar to another Cartier except that a dive bezel has been added on and a rubber strap replacing a leather.

Just my frank opinion and plse ignore if the watches sing to you. Just that our tastes up to now has been extremely similar...

I tried it at MBS Omega boutique (they've DSOTM and blue titanium speedy). You can also go to Omega boutique at Raffles City (DSOTM was there on display). I tried them on separate occasions (both during Dec). Omega RC offered me 11% disc using some credit card (I think the credit card promo is over - it's additional 6% off the 5% they giving for newer models). MBS boutique wanted to give me 8%. I didn't haggle with them so I'm not sure if you can get more disc if you try?

Another alternative is that i ask AD to order and perhaps I can get better disc since I've been giving them biz....

My friend had the Top Gun and he dropped it....ended up paying an hefty sum to replace the case. He did it and subsequently sold it off..

Jos,

Actually, I find no issue with the date as it is small enough not to distract from the Bvlgari signature of 12 & 6 on the dial. Attention is therefore focused on the multifaceted case design and beautiful bracelet construction. It has a particularly strong design language that appeals to me.

This is a first for Cartier in dive watches, which is why we can't link Cartier & diving together till now. I like the design philosophy to make this a serious dive watch yet being unmistakably Cartier in aesthetics. The ADLC bezel appears to have been thoughtfully designed too.

Nevertheless, I still have to try on first and gauge the feel. Maybe I will not buy if it wears well on larger wrists, like the AP ROO range. I think both our taste in watches are fundamentally similar - its just that with these 2 pieces, I am exploring for an edgier than conventional design language.

Jason,
Plse post up up wrist shots or better still, pm for yumchar if and when you acquire it.
Watches must to be seen in the metal to judge the actual looks.

Agree with you that the texts on some of the 9300 dials are garish and totally spoil the looks esp. those in the 9 o'clock counter for the running 60 seconds.
e.g. these few

93,000 HKD for me I feel that it is too much to pay for an Omega. I'd get a Daytona instead. Which is what I did.
