Montblanc Nicolas Rieussec Automatic Chronograph

Hi there everyone. I haven't seen much discussed on this forum regarding montblanc watches especially the ones with their own movement, eg Montblanc Nicolas Rieussec Automatic Chronograph. Is there a reason? Any shortcomings I should be aware of?

I was quite taken by this watch and wanted to get your collective views regarding the  Nicolas Rieussec Automatic Chronograph.

Brand no problem selling pen, history!!!
But watches also need some history !!! Minerva nvr a premium brand till Richemont rebrand it with Mont Blanc...

I still love the look of the watch, but I hear you, buy at my own risk (from the perspective of the watch maintaining its value and the Montblanc/Minerva brand getting traction amongst watch collectors).

What a beautiful watch!! Had in mind to own one.. but finally decided and bought the Rolex GMT Master IIc last week. A year end present for myself for this year..

Buy something you like not what others like. The money is from your wallet.If you are going to buy only 1 luxury watch through out your life, then it will have to be a Rolex all purpose sports watch.

For this model, the movement alone  has out done many so called brands with century of history..

Gut feel is always the best indicator.

Personally, I do like the watch.

Buying a nice watch with an emotional link will gives much satisfaction, and reflects the owner's personality.. but if one day one of those watches have to go on the re-sale market, the watch should preferably be easy to find another owner without losing too much value. Also, the cost of maintenance, or servicing, the watch can be a significant factor. Just lubricating the movement of the "Omg" brand chronograph would cost between RM2-3 K at present rate! Mont Blanc's services won't be cheap either! These are my experiences.

really eye catching. Certainly a showpiece, price is also considerable. Not too extravagant.

I agree with what tonykpk said. If you had to only own one luxury watch than perhaps for me, i wouldn't go for this one. However if im a collector of luxury watches this one certainly makes the list. Beautiful dial.

If you are buying a watch to retain it's value, then some Rolex sport models are better. But if you are buying a watch because you like the look, then this one is quite nice. Bear in mind Rolex models look "boring" compared to this.

I always like this watch. To me it's the best of both world. GMT + Monopusher chronograph!

Sad thing is the size kill it for me. The case is too thick. Even 43mm is a bit large for a dress watch but I think it is manageable.

I have been trying on this watch for at least few years now to convince myself but just can't get pass the thickness.

The manual wind version has the correct proportion but no GMT 

I'm sad ......

Thanks for all the feedback folks. A lot to think over indeed, i.e. brand v. value retention v. Movement v. Gut feel   

I suspect the gut may win the day, but will only know for sure when, and if, I pull the trigger!

Love it to bits.

Although large, it's curved lugs sits very comfortable on the wrist.

Nearly pulled the trigger on it.

The finish at the price point is very good.
