Pam 393 (rose gold)
« on: August 27, 2012, 01:50:56 PM »
I'm thinking of selling my Pammy 88 to fund this rose gold pammy 393. I'm looking for a rose gold watch for casual or special occastions...it fits all my criteria: size of 42mm (i've a small wrist), 1950 casing, sandwich dial, with date, 3 day PR, inhouse movement but something inside me has that inkling feeling that perhaps i should not go for it...can't pinpoint what exactly??

what're your thoughts, guys?

It's 42mm..i wonder why is this so? perhaps to replace 40mm or position this as a "dress" watch? Pam has never struck me as a dress watch..

go for it or get the crazy thought out of my head?

Cheers

James

My personal view (which is not very important anyway) is that PAMs are meant to be tool watches and hence having precious metal case somehow strikes right at the heart of PAM's DNA- PAM and precious metal esp rose gold seems like an irreconcillable proposition IMHO.

same thing when they come up with Sub gold too. It's meant to be a tool watch for diving.
Hope I didn't struck any nerves here, just my personal humble opinion anyhow.

If you feel n think its a tool watch, then it is.  If u feel n think its an all purpose watch , it is as well. Its all in the mind, just my opinion..fr tony..

If you are into PAM long enough you would understand that the historical DNA is an important part of the brand which includes the fact that it was a tool watch for the marina militare. Its not just in the mind which explains why all (except PAM 21) precious metals pam are selling below retail in the secondary market- paneristis care too much about the historical DNA.

Needs a picture.
Well it's a dress watch if you consider the precious metal Rolex Submariners/GMTs / Omega sports models as dress watches too.

Personally I am cool with it.

I don't understand why can't a watch made of metal other than Steel is a tool watch. I believe as long as the metal used is tough enough and suitable for the job, notwithstanding the cost of the material, then it is alright. There are instances where pure gold is soft hence it is not a good candidate to make a tool watch out of gold on top of the prohibitive cost.
