Speedmaster occasionally loses significant time
« on: July 12, 2016, 12:51:30 PM »
Hi Guys,

I recently got my Omega 3513.53 from a reputable second hand dealer in Tokyo. I've strangely noticed it lose some significant time twice in the two months I've owned in.

The first time I noticed it two weeks ago, it had lost an hour and a half. And this morning as I was going out, it was slow by about 20 minutes (and I also noted that the chrono was around 10 mins, but I didn't see the hour, as I was driving). In hindsight, I should have taken a pic of it to get some more info. Pretty sure I didn't leave the chrono running overnight.

From what I know, they watch was serviced by the dealer before selling, which I assume was done. It's just pretty strange that this has happened out of the blue. It could be that I wore it a little less during the weekend (I don't wear it when I'm at home), but even then the power reserve of the 7750-based movement should last me more than a day. I'm just wondering if anybody has noted such issues before.

The logical thing would be to send it for a service/check up, but I'm just worried it's one of those rarely-occuring things that is hard to catch, even when being serviced. I'm also a little tight these few months, so I'm hoping I won't need to service it so soon.

Aside from the two instances above, it keeps great time. Probably off by a few seconds a day only.

Any help would be welcome. ???

Thanks,
Matt

On an related note, I was wondering if you guys have any watch service places to recommend around PJ/Subang? I popped by Wing Wah in Subang SS14, but the staff there didn't seem too interested.

I would reckon that since it is running significantly quicker or slower, is an indication that the watch is due for a service. Does the watch come with a service history?

Ah, sorry. I forgot to mention that it's keeping pretty good time, aside from those two instances. I'll add the info to the original post.

No, it didn't come with a service history. Just watch and the original warranty card. The vendor said they've overhauled it before though.

Hi,

It could have. The vendor actually had 2 options for tourists. 6 months warranty, or no warranty if I skip the Japanese GST tax. Considering I wasn't planning on going back to Tokyo anytime soon, I went for the no warranty option.

I have just got back my Speedmaster, which was sent in to Omega for a full Cat 3 servicing. Therefore, your full servicing should cost approximately the same i.e. RM2,300 including change of seals, WR tests, and adjustments back to COSC tolerances. From your account, I would venture to say that it should be due for servicing already.

I recently I bought a Preowned Omega from Watchclub at Amcorp mall ground floor, after their do a service & only sell the watch to me, I was satisfied with the watch is keeping on time ! You can look for Carlson.

Or You also can look for Milan Classic Alex from Amcorp mall first floor, they also will help & send the watch to their Technician.

For my watch if seldom wear & I will do some winding cause if a automatic if wear for short time & the power reserve is not enough to run the mechanism in the full function !

Hope this can help you.

Hi guys,

Just an update. I suspect it's actually down to me being quite a newbie about the amount of movement/walking needed to keep the 7750-based movement wound, especially the unidirectional winding. I've done a little more testing, and the times it's stopped, it's always when I've been at home and not gone out, which basically means I'm sitting at my home desk.

After winding it or moving it around a bit, it starts to move fine again. Still keeps good time.  ;D
