Lets talk watch boxes
« on: November 05, 2009, 07:38:58 AM »
Do you think that sometimes watch companies go overboard with their boxes?
Chopping off big blocks of wood to make them.
Boxes  that are 20-30times the size of the actual watch.

Do you think that the cost to make the boxes transfer too much to us?

This is where i admire MIH in that they deliver their watch with the newspaper of the day. To make sure the cost of the watch is brought to a minimum and the customer not have to bare it as much.

Sometimes the boxes that Rolex watch comes in suits that purpose?
Although i dont know if we are actually paying a little less by having just a simple green box.

Oh and Alvin, i just saw a post on another forum and the box for the Longines Legend Diver is HUGE !

Will you buy a >RM10k watch comes in paper carton box like casio or mass produced seiko watches? Look @ it from the eyes of the population.

I do agree the huge watch box is cost a lot and we all bear too much on the cost of it.

but still i prefer to receive my expensive watch on a big and elegant box.....  :Laughing_on_floor:

MIH...they also chopped a lot of trees to print the newspapers...lol...

yes, unfortunately...we pay for the whole package..box included....you can always sell the box away to recoup some $$ esp when you keep all your watches in a winder or watch display case ....

A RM10k plus Rolex Air King has an almost same box as a RM30k+ Daytona haha......

At leas the MIH newspaper we can recycle but not a watch box.

Well i agree although i like to see and have a nice bling box but end of the day i just chuck it away n keep it.

Packaging is everything !!! Nice wooden boxes with leather liner are simply icing on the cake to a watch. Anyone here care to post some pictures showing their favourite watch box versus those simple green vinyl coated box ? Picture tells a thousand words though.

Honestly, i don't like big box, heavy boxes but then again....if you pay 20K/ 30K/ 40k/ 50K for a watch, are you OK with cheap looking/material box? To me, as long as the box doesn't look/feel cheap, i'm OK ;) I remember there is a watch come with a box with winder, that's a good ideal actually ;)

also, i never though those boxes since day one i got the watch..the only time i look for the box is when i'm selling the watch and make sure complete set is there :p

Fine watches are meant for a totally different market. People who can afford fine watches...well...money should not be an issue. Why would the cost of an elegant box bother the buyer?

yeap... its kinda weird a nice watch come with small plastic box....
so i do think the price must reflect all this...

mih is different case... it was a project to restore a museum watch... so no profit element there... not a business plan....
so wrap with daily news paper has it own meaning.... the date and time you contributed to that museum project... the coordinate point is even engrave on the watch buckle to tell you where it was made and come from....
so do not compare this to other watches built to make $$$
