Looking for watch battery
« on: October 08, 2011, 08:42:22 PM »
Looking to replace the battery on my Kirium F1. It uses the CR2320 battery. Wanted to DIY the replacement but it's seem that this battery is not easy to find. I went to 3 watch shops today in my neighbourhood (selling mainly lower end watches) and all 3 don't carry this particular battery. According to one, this battery is "lang mun".

Any idea which shop may stock this battery?

Am thinking of trying the higher end watch shops tomorrow.

Yes, maybe the higher end watch shops do have them in stock.
If you are in PJ area, have you try AmCorp Mall? There are a few shops there which may have what you are looking for.

Cheers.

Thanks.

Gone round the shops in One Utama today.. no luck. This battery sure is rare.

Try looking for Casio G-shock shops, as to my knowledge, some of the G-shock models used the CR2320 battery. (Especially the DW-5600C-1,  DW-5600C-1V, DW-5600C-9V, DW-5600C-9CV and DW-5800C-1V, the first G-shock with Bezel protector)

BTW, your Kirium is Swiss made right? Reason is, if swiss made, try to get the Renata brand of battery (from Europe), otherwise a Maxell or Sony battery for the Asian version. (Note: depends on the watch movement/engine)

Lastly, if indeed the CR2320 is no more in production or very difficult to find, try to use the CR2016 battery instead of the original CR2320 one. I was told some people had been using them for years in place of the CR2320, when they could not get the CR2320, and have not had a problem. But first, please check with the watch repairer if the CR2016 can be compatibale in the Kirium or not.

As a last resort, you can order online.

(I was told Tag Kirium F1 sold in Europe used the 394 battery - not sure if the same as your CR2320)

Cheers.

Instead of running around why not send it back to Tag and be done with it?

Surely it cost you more now with traveling and time spent and such.
Worth it like this?

Takashi is Right!

BTW, is the Kirium pressure test to insure it's water tight? If it is, this may require replacement of some or all of the gaskets in the case and an AD service center is the best place to change the battery.
If the watch is pressure test, I would not recommend that this is something that you should DIY.

Cheers.

ya...changing batteries in watches is not as simple and straight forward one thought to be..
A guy posted a complain that after changing his Tissot T-touch titanium2, its compass feature does not work.
I brought this up with AD and was told that it needed "specialist technicians" to change battery for such watch..! wah?!

Thanks for the tips. I suppose I could send it back to Tag. That would be my last resort. It's inconvenient for me to swing by the service centre. Since I have the tools for the job, thought I would just buy the battery at my convenience and DIY. Even if I DIY, at some point in the future (when I am in the area), I would probably still stop by Tag to have them pressure test the watch. I am not too worried about the water resistance though as I seldom wet my watches.

As for sending it to a watch maker, my last such battery change was quite a disaster. It was a reputable watch repair centre but they end up scratching my watch. For a battery that cost no more than RM6, I was charged RM70 and on top of that, my watch was damaged. Superb service, isn't it?

In any case, I have already ordered the battery online. Here's a local webstore for hard to get batteries.

Well, what do you expect.
That Seiko model is the expensive one, on par with the average Loleks. Almost Ten Grand, wor. Why people think Seiko is cheap watch? Have you seen a Grand Seiko? Or Credo series by Seiko?

In Cantones " Mei seiko, ah?"  :Laughing_on_floor: Seiko also produce very expensive timepieces using their own technologies, on par with the Swiss manufacturers.

Cheers.

Yup, agreed, I remembered reading somewhere in this forum about the buying MM300, one of the member replied that why bother with the seller since Seiko is available everywhere and asking for so high, but he forgot Seiko Mei Mei is not cheap  :o

My guess is the human's perception.

Having a Loleks repaired or service, costing RM2K will be felt as it should be the case.
Or an Omega for RM1K repair/service cost may perceived to be "normal"
To pay a repair/service charge for a > RM10K Seiko at RM2K is ridiculous?
I think if one is to pay RM2K to repair a RM200 Seiko will sound Absurd or Ridiculous (One can buy 10 pieces RM200 Seiko for that amount)  :shocked1:

the main point is there r not any AD in malaysia given the authorities to change the battery so they need to send back to japan therefore it cost more than the cost it supposed to be at the 1st place...

2k for insured courier service, seal/s, battery, etc.. and workmanship. That's about the price of such high end watches. And then ordinary folks' perception about Seiko..." ini Seiko..tak glamour, tak banyak orang minat..klau Tag, Tissot...harga tinggi sikit..."

Anyway, I value my opinion and appreciation of my watches rather than anyone's opinion about them. Furthermore, I am the one who pay for it,  and will be wearing them, not folks out there. So, enjoy your watches. ;D
