Up for sale is my personal collection Rolex 116660 Deepsea D-Blue. This is the only Rolex model that was designed in honor of an event and for a person - commemorating James Cameron solo submersible (Deepsea Challenger) dive to one of the deepest parts of the ocean. Produced for a total of 4 years only (from 2014 to 2018), it is the shortest production run watches ever produced by Rolex. The mesmerizing blue to back gradient of the dial is to represent the ocean that gets darker as it becomes deeper, where the sunlight can only penetrate so far. The green color of the letter "DEEPSEA" is the same as the paint on the Deepsea Challenger submersible.
Rolex's professional dive watches are tested 25 percent more than they are labeled to be able to withstand. For the Deepsea model, it is tested to the depth of 4900m. This is achieved through the "Ringlock System" that uses three elements to absorb pressure. An inner ring of Biodur 108 steel (this material is 3 times more tension proof than 904L steel) that sandwiched between a 5.5mm sapphire crystal and 3.28mm grade-5 titanium caseback.
When it comes to bracelet construction, the Deepsea bracelet is the most useful and technologically advanced. It features a flip-lock system that allowed a 1.8-cm fold-out extension. The Glidelock clasp also has a 1.8-cm extension piece that allows the user to shorten or lengthen the bracelet while wearing the watch.
Watch is currently fitted with the original Rubber B strap (worth RM 1200). The condition of the strap is like new. The unique thing about this jet black rubber B with Pacific Blue line is that it perfectly matches the dial color scheme without making it wacky. It is also not available as an option on the newer 126660 models. The rounded strap edges make the strap super comfortable to wear and prevents it from sliding around.
