Watch Service questions
« on: February 23, 2015, 10:54:22 PM »
Was reading the old forum threads on watch service as research and 2 things still I could not find answer for :

1) Do Service centers (looking at Omega, Rolex and JLC  but feel free to share on others) charge for service quotation? I read that some eg Omega will send watch to Bienne to assess if they unable to fix locally and watch will be back weeks later with service quotation, so my question is will they charge for this service quotation? If yes, what's the damage like?

2) Is there any service tax now to watch service? Was thinking if no, then post GST watch servicing will be more expensive but if there is say x%, then the impact will not be as bad depending on the %.

Any comments or feedback on these all the gurus out there?

(1) For a general quote, normally free. But if you want a detailed service quotation as you mentioned, about sending to bienne and such, there will be a charge if you decide not to proceed with the servicing.

(2) not sure. AFAIK, gst applies and its 6%.

Cant share any opinion on question 1 cause i have not done it before.

On question 2, if the company have got revenue above 500k they need to charge 6% gst for whatever they bill u. Which means the watch service also wil incur 6%. The way to escape this if to find a small revenue watch service shop but then again how will you know unless you ask before you send for service.

On service, you can try Malaysia Watch Forum shop in Scott OUG. I have done 2 of my watch service there and all is great and fast. They also provide warranty for the full service.

Thanks for the info all.

Kygan711, is Chia the person servicing the watch or the person to look for in regards to watch service in MWF?
