tag heuer - battery leakage, new movement replacement
« on: February 03, 2015, 08:27:06 PM »
Dear Watchers,

My recent trip to get my tag aquaracer classic 2000 series battery serviced came back with some bad news - battery leakage!

The famous sc in Amcorp quoted me 8xx for the following,

- overhaul
- circuit
- battery
- gasket
- cleaning &
- workmanship

I think the price is on the high side, but the movement is damaged/corroded and needs replacement.

Hope to get some views as some people here mentioned that it shouldnt cost more than a few hundred bucks..

Thanks guys

A new quartz ETA movement for this model costs approx 30-35 USD which is less than RM 150.

JeepWH is right. Just replace the movement, do some service/cleaning/restore the case, dial and hands. Put a new battery and gasket. Problem solved. I don't think it is a good move to overhaul the quartz movement.

Thats what i usually recommend to my customers with quartz problems. I'll quote them for a replacement movement, telling them so.

Its essentially a plug and play method. I do offer options for my customers between Swiss and Japanese movement depending on availability and price.

Definitely 1k above. They'll insist on movement replacement and total overhaul.

My wife's Aquaracer Quartz was sent to tag heuer sc for initially what was thought to be only a battery change. Came back with a replaced movement, but all in was charged 500. The watch did not undergo any form of cleaning and polishing though. Might be a good idea to send it for an estimate.

Thanks to all that replied,

Ive taken the watch to MWF as per Chris's suggestion,

Femann, as per the price, based on the quotes I got, ranged from RM2xx to RM8xx. & I agree its odd for that particular SC to quote me for an overhaul when the others suggested a new movement.

Will keep you guys posted.

Saw some nice watches in MWF...  :-\
