Swatch Irony Glass / Crystal Replacement
« on: July 30, 2014, 08:28:09 AM »
Hello guys,

I'm Ram from Johor Bahru - I need help, desperately.

I just had a deep scratch on my Swatch Irony glass and I need some help from the experts here if I could replace the glass / crystal?

I browsed around few watch shops around town - reputable [ie. Swatch Shop, City Chain] & normal ones but none of them has contacted me to confirm if they're able to repair the watch.  :-\

Below are some pictures of the scratch for reference - deep scratch is just above the date display and few hairline scratch between 9 & 3.  :'(

Do advice if you know if there's a service available in KL or Singapore - thanks in advance.  :Praying:

Regards,
Ram

Thank you for the suggestion.

I tried calling KL office and they advised me to walk in - the staff wasn't friendly either.  :shocked1:

Decided to call Swatch Singapore - the Customer Service was very helpful and offered to send the watch in for free polishing.
However, he'd mentioned that all Swatch Irony glass are NOT replaceable.  :'(

Is it glass or acrylic?
I'm not sure if it's glass or acrylic - by the looks of it, i think it's acrylic but can't confirm.

Anyone else has / had the same experience? Please share as I really love this watch and it's a pain to see that scratch.. sigh.

from the pics, at 3 it looks more like a crack.
but as SG has offered free polishing, just send it in and see what they can do, then get their opinion too.

You're right - however I can't feel the crack. It could be an internal crack though.

I'm not sure if polishing would help - being pessimistic here but keeping fingers crossed.

Is it true that Swatch glasses are not replaceable? I wonder why would Swatch design in such way.. hmph..  ???

hi Ram, like meoramri said, i believe the swatch model dont come with crystal, it should be something like a plastic very much prone to scratches,

i do have the same situation 10 years ago and i opt to polish it, but scratches still visible after that, not that bad
you could try that first, any watch maker can do polishing for you

Hi there,

Thank you for sharing your experience - guess I've got not much choice left.

Do you happen to remember how much watch polishing would cost and can it be done instantly?

I spoke with Swatch Singapore again - they said I will need to leave my watch for 2 days at least for polishing.
Apparently, it will be done via special tool.

I've never had the experience of watch polishing before.

the watchmaker did it for free but i believe it doesnt cost much
if more than 100 i believe is not worth it then

If it is plastic then it's relatively easy to polish it yourself

Things you need:
1. sandpaper 1000 or 1500 grit
2. turtlewax (yes, the one you use to polish your car)
3. soft cloth

apply small amount of turtlewax on the plastic crystal and use the sandpaper rub lightly into circular motion evenly on the crystal until all the hairline scratches are gone.
Buff it off with the soft cloth.
Take note though that those deep scratches will not be totally disappear.

Cheers.

Sometimes the best thing to do is ... absolutely nothing!

Hello guys,

I finally managed to get my watch shining again - since I'm in JB, i tried my luck with Swatch Singapore.
Made an appointment, drove to ION Orchard and they polished my watch for FREE!

They even replaced my strap as they noticed color deterioration on both straps - and yes, for FREE!

Thank you for all your suggestions guys - you'd been very helpful.

Cheers to everyone!
