I think for me, it really depends on the purpose of the watch purchase. Am I buying it for myself to enjoy or is this to commemorate a significant life event (e.g. birth of a child, significant career progression, marriage, etc)? Obviously if it is for myself, then I can wait. I waited 8 years before pulling the trigger on the Rolex Sub Date I lusted over. If it is to commemorate an event, then the luxury of waiting is not there. Generally, I will not shop around too much and pretty much will buy it from the first place I see it.

Some believe that if you buy a watch that you really REALLY wanted, the extra money spent is actually the cost of enjoying the moment that you wear the watch sooner rather than saving the money and wait for a better deal...

I fall into this category...

My rule for that must have watch(es); You only live once, buy what you love now!! Any additional time spend on wearing it is a gain!! I apply this rule to other things (and people) in life that I love as well  ;D

I must admit, I am a deeply shallow person when it comes to buying watches. I like to be pampered in a boutique (AD only if I can't find it in a boutique). It makes me feel good especially when I'm spending that kind of money on one object, which I am (almost) going to wear for life. I expect them to provide the best service the the lifespan of my watch for the premium I'm paying. So there, guilty as charge.

I'm focusing on small amount of watches from reputed and reliable companies (reliable means that they'll most likely will be around till the next century). This allows me to focus my budget on not just the watch but the cost of the life-cycle of maintaining it throughout.

Hah!! I was waiting to see if someone with this exact mentality exists... so it does...
I would say I am like you sometimes... but only sometimes...
I like being pampered as well...
Dropping such serious moolah, of course we would expect some pampering... which you most probably never get when shopping at grey or pre owned...
Sometimes, it's the whole experience... wether if it's worth the premium... to each his own...

A very logical way of thinking. Sounds sensible enough...
Reminds me of the time when I got my wife's dj... she liked it, buy it there and then...

Terrenceterrence "seriously, i think buying a watch for it's secondhand value is like getting married and thinking about divorce at the back of your mind."
