Sarpaneva - Anyone into it??
« on: May 16, 2013, 01:07:51 AM »
The only thing I knew about Finland previously is Nokia..(Ok..Mbe Mika Hakkinen & Jari Litmanen too) until I found out about this brand..

The design is unique ( especially the controversial "moon face"), production is limited yet the price is still within the reach of mere mortal like me!! Though with its last year collaboration with MB&F that it surely set the price to creep northwards after this..

Anyone in MWF own this grail? A friend of mine will be going to Finland in July..Seriously considering him to check this watch on my behalf..Maybe even meet the man Stepan Sarpeneva himself..

Sarpaneva has always been a watch company that fascinates me. The half skeleton dial of the Harvest Moon is among the best I've seen. And in my opinion, it is the only few watch company where PVD coating is done right, and not just another marketing option.
The design signature of Sarpaneva is a bit gloomy, but utterly attractive at the same time. A new taste, that venture into contemporary watch design. As a result, a collaboration with Mr Maximilian is no surprise, as both are speaking the same design language.
Great taste you got for opting for one of these, and do remember to share when you've got your watch back from Finland.  ;)

Why would the moon be "controversial" ?

Perhaps this pic will explain it.

My guess is the "face", too dark, too "cult like".

Sarpaneva is always crazy. I'm not into his style but his early work is quite daring.

I remember the reaction when I 1st saw his Supernova

He came from a family of artist.
That would explain his design quirkyness.

No more official AD here that carries the brand but there is a main disti which doesnt have a shop yet.

It is indeed a like it or hate it affair.

Mr Tyler just mentioned he could help, maybe he have a way to import them?

Yes, there is someone who carries the brand in KL. No retail store as far as I know.
